Job description

Under the general supervision of the Vice President for Student Success & Engagement, this position is responsible for the recruiting and management of a collegiate-level Esports team, The Swarm. The incumbent is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the esports program, including, but not limited to, recruitment of players, player skill development, scheduling of practices, scrimmages, and matches, maintaining equipment and facilities, supervising assistants, and other duties as necessary to support the esports program. The Esports Head Coach also serves as the Esports Club Advisor.

The Esports Head Coach plays a critical role in developing players' skills, fostering teamwork, and guiding the teams to success both in-game and academically. The role requires a combination of gaming expertise, leadership skills, strategic thinking, organization skills, and a commitment to player growth. The Esports Head Coach serves as a member of the Student Success & Engagement Leadership Team.

A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL:

  • Develop and run practices, competitions, off-season training, and team-building activities.
  • Provide guidance and input on games selected for varsity and non-varsity competition.
  • Develop, organize, and direct the fundraising and sponsorship activities through advertising and vendor contacts for the varsity Esports program.
  • Ability to manage tech and, in consultation with Baker College technology structures, troubleshoot basic tech issues.
  • Maintain the Esports arena, including staffing, scheduling, venue maintenance, and rotation.
  • Organize team travel when required.
  • Coach, strategize, encourage, discipline, and assess student-athlete development, conduct, and team position.
  • Coordinate recruitment and scholarship activities with Enrollment Management and Financial Aid.
  • Work with team leads to develop a competition season and coordinate any travel; act as a chaperone for the team when travel is required.
  • Facilitate and coordinate maintenance of Esports equipment.
  • Create strategies to evaluate the performance and effectiveness of the program and determine measurements to enhance the productivity of the program.
  • Organize and manage summer camps for prospective Esports student-athletes.
  • Promote attendance at Esports events by providing information for students, faculty, staff and the public, and assist with maintaining information on the web page and coordinate television, print and radio information (including game/tournament broadcasting) in collaboration with the VP of Marketing and Communications.

Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Prior experience in collegiate esports, preferably in a leadership role.
