Organization Description: The African Community Education (ACE) Program is a non-profit community organization established to address the educational & social needs of African refugee & immigrant populations in Worcester, MA. ACE works by assisting families to achieve educational & social stability by providing access to academic support, community resources & avenues for cultural expression.
The Family Education Program serves the parents of ACE students and other African-born adults and their young children through Family Literacy activities, Adult ESOL instruction, Citizenship instruction and an Early Literacy Playgroup.
Duties:
Start Date: ASAP
Work Hours & Schedule: 9:30-12:00pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. (plus 1 hour of prep time per session). In person job.

Duties:
- Plan, organize, and provide instruction in English
- Develop and deliver lesson plans that utilize a broad range of appropriate teaching techniques and strategies
- Encourage and engage students to speak in English.
- Address all aspects of communication through appropriate instruction that develops each student's ability to read, write, speak, and listen in the appropriate content area
- Administer a pre and post academic and language assessments for the purpose of evaluating each student's progress for meeting academic learning targets and progress in language acquisition
- Maintain complete and accurate records of student progress and evidence of growth and progress
- Provide a nurturing and supportive learning environment that encourages student responsibility and incorporates challenging instructional strategies
- Adapt curriculum to provide individual, small group, and/or remedial instruction to meet the needs of individual students and subgroups of students
- Employ a variety of instructional techniques and strategies to meet different aptitudes and interests of students
- Manage allotted learning time to maximize student achievement

Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
- Experience teaching or facilitating an adult class (ESOL) is highly desirable.
- Experience working in a multicultural setting especially with immigrant populations
- Excellent interpersonal & communication skills (written and spoken
- Good understanding of the cultural norms of the communities served, including ability to forge trusting relationships with adults
- Proficiency in one or more of the following languages is a plus: French, Swahili, Kinyarwanda, Kirundi, or Somali.
