About the Internship Program:

 The internship program at MAPMG is a paid 12-week (or longer) program taking place year-round that is designed to expose undergraduate and graduate students to a wide range of career opportunities in the healthcare field with valuable professional skills that can be transferred to any occupation or industry. The internship program provides undergraduate and graduate students with an interest in health care systems, data analysis, consulting, project management, and strategic planning the opportunity to work on challenging projects in a professional environment.

Students selected for internships gain on-the-job training that integrates education and career development. They will work directly with a mentor, who will provide supervision and mentoring. Together, the intern and mentor will develop an internship plan identifying specific projects or assignments to ensure a meaningful learning experience. 

Overview:

MAPMG is seeking an Ergonomics Intern to support the Wellness Department in the execution of ergonomic projects for the Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group to promote the physical health of physicians and staff. Primary responsibilities will include working with the Senior Director of Organizational Culture and Wellness and the Senior Program Manager of Ergonomics across multiple initiatives to advance strategic operational goals for the Wellness Department. The Intern in Ergonomics will collect meaningful data and provide logistical assistance in the ongoing various projects of the ergonomics program. This position is benefits in-eligible.

This internship will be based in Rockville, MD with the expectation to go into the office on an as-needed basis and will be a part-time position of 24 hours per week.

Candidates must be local or willing to re-locate to the DC, Maryland, and Virginia area for the duration of the internship.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Senior Program Manager of Ergonomics in coordinating and promoting ergonomic opportunities including onsite and virtual educational events for seminars on ergonomics
  • Assist with ongoing ergonomic program evaluation through data collection dissemination and survey analysis
  • Provide input to optimize the current workflow of ergonomic initiatives for physicians and staff
  • Review and update the ergonomic product list used in the Mid-Atlantic states and other commonly used data and contact lists
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications:

  • Student working towards occupational or physical therapy degrees, or a bachelor’s or master’s degree in public health, nursing, health promotion or health administration. Other related disciplines may be considered
  • Cover Letter is preferred for applications
  • Interest in workplace ergonomics from a logistics perspective required
  • Driver’s license with clean driving record and access to a reliable mode of transportation
  • Demonstrated interest in working in the healthcare environment
  • Project management and communications experience preferred
  • Strong organization, communication, and analytical skills required
  • Ability to manage tasks independently and deliver action items in accordance with timelines
  • Ability to perform literature and reference searches
  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • Highly proficient in MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook
  • Experience with creating surveys in SurveyMonkey and/or MS Forms preferred
  • Experience working on teams, as well as independently and autonomously
  • Must be a self-starter
