GENERAL FUNCTION:
This job position is work in collection of refuse and trash. The employee is expected to work most federally recognized holidays that would otherwise be paid time off. An employee in this classification works under the general supervision of the Equipment Operator III, who assigns routes and inspects work daily.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Ability to operate all sanitation vehicles and other various equipment that may be used by the division.
- Comply with established work/ safety policies and procedures. Use of various personal protective equipment is required.
- Check equipment thoroughly before use. Report defects in the equipment to the department supervisor before turning the item in for repair.
- Picks up and empties containers on residential and/ or commercial route.
- Cleans and washes refuse trucks on a regular basis.
- Assists other drivers with their routes when needed. Fills in for other drivers when they are unavailable.
- Work overtime, weekends (when assigned/necessary), and holidays (as required).
- Performs related work as assigned or required.
MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge of traffic regulations.
- Possession of a Class “B” Oklahoma Commercial Driver’s License with an air brake endorsement and driving record acceptable to the City’s insurance carrier.
- Ability to work in adverse weather and capable of heavy manual labor as needed.
- Ability to maintain effective relationships with city officials, employees, and citizens
- Work is performed under the general supervision of the Equipment Operator III. The operator is subject to review and direction by the supervisor, but generally performs assigned work with minimal supervision. Performs other tasks as needed.
- Ability to read, write, perform basic arithmetic, follow verbal and/ or written instructions, carry out assignments with minimal supervision.
ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience in refuse collection.
- Experience in operating equipment currently being used by the city.
This job classification has been designated a safety sensitive job classification in accordance with the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana and Patient Protection Act, 63 O.S., § 427.1 et seq., (OSCN 2019), effective August 29, 2019.

Pay: $21.39 - $27.90 per hour
