Reports to: Research & Public Health Deputy Director

Supervises: Epidemiologists, Program Evaluators, Research Associate, Outreach Coordinator

Salary Grade: CCS 12

FLSA Classification: Exempt

Position Summary:

Provides leadership and coordination of research, program evaluation, and epidemiologic activities; produces analysis of health statistics; and prepares and disseminates health reports for the California Tribal Epidemiology Center (CTEC) housed within the California Rural Indian Health Board, Inc. (CRIHB)

Essential Functions:

  • Is the lead position of the epidemiology staff guiding activities on the epidemiological and program evaluation projects.
  • Develops project methodology and determines research design.
  • Collects epidemiological electronic data files from Indian health programs and state health agencies.
  • Supervises staff in the storage and management of collected data.
  • Generates analysis plans.
  • Performs and supervises the performance of analyses with statistical and spreadsheet programs; interprets analyses and writes analytical sections of study reports.
  • Produces and supervises the production of both lay and technical reports to present health data.
  • Serves as a Program Director/Principal Investigator for one or more projects.
  • Develops work scopes and schedules for grant projects.
  • Manages and writes complex contracts or grants independently.
  • Designs and develops simple and complex grant budgets and justifications as needed.
  • Serves as a professional consultant to various organizations and committees.
  • Communicates with Indian health care providers and the Indian community about data and analytical issues.
  • Ensures the accuracy and clarity of CTEC information, products, and communications.
  • Regular and predictable attendance.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a valid, unrestricted California Driver’s license and ability to be insurable under CRIHB’s automobile insurance. If employee has a valid license from another state, he/she must obtain a CA license within 2 months of hiring date.
  • Position requires occasional over night travel.
  • Requires ability to drive up to 7 hours a day.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Public Health with a concentration in Epidemiology or Biostatistics or some related field is required with five (5) years of management/supervisory experience.
  • Five (5) years of health-related work experience preferred.
  • Strong analytical and writing skills including the ability to produce a well organized and informative extended narrative of analytical methods (providing a sample of written work).
  • Excellent oral communication and presentation skills.
  • Computer skills including the ability to utilize Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Access, Power point, Outlook), and statistical software (i.e., SAS, SPSS, STATA) and the ability to conduct research literature reviews.

This position requires an awareness and keen appreciation of American Indian traditions, customs and socioeconomic needs and the ability at all times to meet and deal effectively in contacts with Indian organizations which requires tact, courtesy, discretion, resourcefulness, and good judgment in handling functions of a sensitive nature.
