Qualifications for Employment
A. Education (Minimum Requirements):
Master’s degree in counseling, psychology or related field.
B. Employment Experience Preferred:
Minimum of three years professional counseling experience post licensure. Employment experience in college counseling is preferred.
C. Pertinent Other:
Must be Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) or Social Worker (LMSW or LCSW) in NYS, or in the process to be licensed within 6 months.
Nature and Scope of Duties
The Senior Counselor reports to the Associate Dean of Instructional Services and/or their designee and performs the following duties:
1. Assumes supervisory responsibility for Counseling Services in the absence of the Executive Director and Associate Dean of Instructional Services.
2. Provides informational presentations to students and prospective students about counseling and wellness services.
3. Provides confidential, personal counseling and maintains a record for each student served.
4. Assists in implementing a peer education program that effectively promotes student development and wellness.
5. Assists in coordinating wellness events and activities throughout the year.
6. Provides students with behavioral health consultations and individualized guidance in achieving personal wellness goals
7. Develops and facilitates student support groups, as needed, to efficiently and effectively address common student development concerns.
8. Provides educational and orientation workshops for students.
9. Provides consultation for faculty and staff in determining appropriate interventions for students of concern.
10. Communicates with outside social service agencies in preparation for referrals, and makes referrals where appropriate.
11. Answers questions during the academic year regarding consequences of withdrawal from coursework.
12. Assists in delivering trainings for faculty and staff on matters related to student development and wellness.
13. Refers students to other appropriate people on campus to obtain assistance.
14. Assists other offices within the EOC on a needed basis.
15. Performs other duties as assigned.
This is a full-time 37.5-hour work week, 12 month position with a salary of $60,000.00.
