Environmental Youth Leadership Intern

Under the supervision of the Senior Coordinator, Conservation Education, the Environmental Youth Leadership Program Intern (the Intern) will participate in a 22-week experiential education program based at the John James Audubon Center (JJAC) in Audubon, PA.

Through hands-on activities, discussion, assigned readings, and local field trips the Intern will improve understanding of ecosystem health, learn best practices to protect birds and other wildlife, gain transferable skills that can be applied across industries, and deepen connections with nature. As part of the program, the Intern will be exposed to different careers, make connections with Audubon staff, and be immersed in educational programs at JJAC.

This internship is open to high school seniors only. 

Interns will collaborate on two capstone projects: one focusing on environmental justice, and one centered on engaging people in conservation issues.

Compensation:

$15.00 / hour

• Meet weekly at the John James Audubon Center. Specific days and times will be agreed upon between interns and their supervisor.
• Assist with leading environmental education and programming at JJAC and in the community.
• Assist with public events at JJAC.
• Greet visitors to the John James Audubon Center Museum and along onsite pathways.
• Assist with site maintenance, including debris or trash clean up, as well as office tasks as needed.

• The internship is designed for high school seniors.
• Must have transportation to and from the Center.
• Interest in environmental science, birds, conservation, and community outreach.
• Desire to educate others about conservation and the natural world.
• Must be organized and exercise good time management.
• Comfort working independently and as part of a team.
• Willingness to participate in nature-based programming in an outdoor setting, including in the Perkiomen Creek.
