Job Description
This is a full-time position within the Natural Resources Department of the Buena Vista Rancheria, under the general direction of the Natural Resources Director/Operations Manager. The Environmental Technician (Natural Resources) works closely with the NRD and NRD staff implement the USEPA General Assistance Program (GAP) program. The Environmental Technician will assist with the planning environmental programs, assist in solid and hazardous waste reduction, implementing the Tribal air quality program, and conducting environmental education and outreach activities. The Technician will assist with other NRD program activities as needed and directed.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist in the implementation of Natural Resource projects relating NDR and GAP program
Assist in planning, and implementing the Tribal Air Quality Program
Assist in planning and implementing the Integrated Waste Management Plan
Develop, review, or update NRD Management Plans and SOPs as outlined in the GAP work plan
Perform environmental data collection, maintain databases, analyze, and interpret data, draft reports
Coordinate between the various Tribal departments, and consultants for projects, and participate in working groups
Assist in seeking and applying for funding for the continued growth of the NRD program including annual GAP program development
Write grant reports and close out documents
Track grant deliverables and progress and internal program finances
Travel between project sites, and Tribal lands
Assist in Tribal community outreach and education efforts
Undertaking any other duties assigned or required for any other functions of the Natural Resources Department
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience working with Tribal governments and Native communities
Willingness and ability to perform field duties such as air quality monitoring, solid waste reduction, or hazardous waste reduction.
Knowledge of EPA environmental programs
Ability to operate standard computer software applications required of the position
Knowledge of applicable federal, state, county, and local laws, regulations, and requirements
Ability to work positively with the Tribal community and co-workers in a conscientious and professional manner
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
Ability to work independently and effectively handle multiple assignments simultaneously
Experience with GIS software, and GPS mapping, and database management a plus
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
A bachelor’s degree in environmental science, biological science, Natural Resources, or social sciences is desired. A minimum of 2 years combined of education and/or experience performing natural resource related management or technician duties.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
The possession of a State of California Class “C” Valid Driver license is required.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
This position primarily requires working in an office environment and requires working in the field in an outdoor environment, subject to the elements. Sitting, standing, walking, bending, and lifting are all to be expected in the performance of this job. Travel will also be required for training, meetings, conferences, and tribal community events.
