Your Specific Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for the supervision of staff including appraisals, planning and directing their work, approving leave, having the authority for hiring, and taking disciplinary action or effectively recommending such actions.
Supervises direct reports including motivating, training, providing guidance and direction. Develops expectations and meets with staff regularly to discuss performance, complete performance reviews, and discipline action, if needed. Maintains vacation and work schedules to ensure proper coverage and completes timesheets. Ensures all staff complete required training and are offered additional training.
Oversees and assures prescribed inspections of public pools, spas, and bathing places as well as biomedical waste facilities and body art establishments throughout the county to assure compliance with operating permit requirements; promptly investigate complaints and take immediate/appropriate corrective action to resolve problems to assure public health and safety.
Assures food service and facility inspections are in compliance with codes and statutes. Oversees and performs inspections on mobile home, recreational vehicle park, and recreational camp inspections. Promptly maintains and schedules complaint investigations, recommends corrective action, and initiates enforcement to safeguard public health and safety.
Administers the PACE, Protocol for Assessing Community Excellence, Program. Ensures the 13-step process is followed achieving tangible results in the chosen community or communities.
The incumbent will also assist the Environmental Administrator in development and implementation of program policies related to Environmental Health program requirements. This position will ensure personnel in these programs properly apply and implement policies, procedures and requirements to protect the population of Lake County from environmental hazards, reportable diseases and threats and/or disasters whether natural or manmade.
This position will assist the Environmental Administrator with program monitoring to include, tracking and assigning daily workload, assisting in the collection of delinquent fees, follow-up and tracking permit applications, performing quality assurance inspections and conducting staff ride along in all programs of Environmental Health. This position is responsible for quality assurance and staff development to include the monitoring, assessment, assignment, tracking and delivery of staff training.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Same as Class Specs. Intermediate level skill in the operation of a personal computer and the use of common software applications. Appropriate physical conditioning to effectively perform the required functions of a field position when needed. Work safely in inclement weather conditions, i.e. temperatures exceeding 95 degrees, rain etc. Able to lift 50 pounds and distinguish soil colors.
Qualifications:
Minimum –
- Willing to work before, during, and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. This may include working in a special needs or Red Cross shelter, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in one of the physical or natural sciences. An official transcript is needed to confirm your qualifications for this position.
- Current valid driver’s license or State ID. If out of state a Florida driver's license or State ID will be required within 30 days of hire.
- Have professional certification in Food Protection
- Have at least a year of experience working in the facility program.
- Willing to work in inclement weather (heat, cold, rain, etc.)
- Able to lift 50 pounds.
