ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION COMMISSION

Environmental Supervisor I - Waste Division (Petroleum Restoration Program)

$28.64 - $44.71 Hourly
$59,571.20 - $92,996.80 Yearly
 

Performs duties managing and supervising professionals and technicians in an environmental pollution control program. Distinctions between class levels in the Environmental Supervisor series are based on the size, scope and impact of the organizational unit managed within the agency, the nature and number of functions managed, the level of supervision exercised, the nature of positions supervised, the direct budgetary responsibility, and the complexity and scope of assigned job duties and responsibilities.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in a Natural or Physical Science or Engineering; and
Three or more years of experience in environmental regulation, inspection, sampling, testing or evaluation; One or more years of which must have been as a supervisor or lead worker/team leader.

An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-specific competencies noted below.

   Considerable knowledge of a specific operational area of pollution control/analysis.
   Considerable knowledge of air, water or soil pollution control.
   Working knowledge of Federal, State, and local environmental control and mitigation laws and regulations.
   Ability to perform and/or supervise specialized work in a specific operational area of pollution control/analysis.
   Ability to plan, organize, and supervise the work of others.
   Ability to organize work, set priorities, and determine resource requirements.
   Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
   Ability to work effectively with others.
   Ability to use a computer and related software.


REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

Depending on assigned area of responsibility, incumbents in the position may perform one or more of the activities described below.

   Manages activities, resources, operations, and maintenance in a comprehensive environmental regulating, monitoring, or analysis program.
   Investigates problems, implements solutions and directs remedial action during emergency situations.
   Reviews and acts on administrative and operational problems.
   Develops work standards and guidelines for assigned unit/section; implements goals, objectives, policies and procedures for assigned unit/section.
   Clarifies and resolves day-to-day issues regarding organizational policies, practices, programs and projects.
   Performs and may direct investigations, enforcement actions, and preparation of citations/violations.
   Supervises and provides guidance and training to assigned administrative, clerical, technical and/or maintenance staff; assigns, monitors and reviews work; evaluates performance and initiates corrective action as needed.
   Assesses staffing needs and identifies shortfalls; interviews, recruits and hires new staff.
   Directs the allocation of resources to achieve timely outcomes and meet goals.
   Evaluates resource, inventory, maintenance and personnel certification requirements; identifies needs and makes recommendations.
   Provides budget inputs, and monitors fund allocations and expenditures.
   Coordinates with appropriate points of contact to ensure achievement of department objectives.
   May represent the agency/division/department at meeting, functions and events.
   Serves as representative on task forces and committees.
   Performs other related duties as required.
