Job Responsibilities/Duties
This Environmental Specialist position will provide environmental oversight for the operations of the 242-A Evaporator, the 242A Boiler Annex and Tank Farm operations. Examples include preparing records/documentation for regulatory inspections or document requests, reviewing and providing input to facility work packages and procedures, ensuring facility modifications and upgrades are compliant with current permits and providing input to internal WRPS environmental reporting requirements. The position will also provide environmental support to all TOC facilities as required.
Responsibilities of the Environmental Specialist include, but are not limited to following activities:
Provide day-to-day environmental support to ensure compliance with environmental policies, requirements, and procedures.
Review and approve technical documents such as work packages, procedures, control plans, site evaluations, and excavation permits.
Oversee field activities to ensure implementation is compliant with permits and other regulatory requirements.
Support the preparation of environmental permits or permit modifications.
Perform surveillances and compliance inspections to provide organizational feedback on environmental performance.
Support regulatory inspections, as requested.
Ensure environmental data is collected and analyzed to demonstrate compliance with various RCRA , radioactive air, toxic air permits and other regulatory requirements.
Provide environmental input in work planning and high-risk work reviews.
Provide Environmental on-call support and issue regulatory notifications, as required.
Maintain all required certifications and qualifications.
Assist in developing tools and processes to verify compliance of requirements.
Perform other duties as assigned or delegated by management commensurate with training and qualifications.
Required Qualifications
Grade 17
BA/BS in Environmental Science, Engineering or related discipline and five (5) years relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Grade 18
BA/BS in Environmental Science, Engineering or related discipline and seven (7) years relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Desired Qualifications
Knowledge of radioactive and mixed waste practices and regulations, (e.g., Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Toxic Substances Control Act, etc.).
Experience interacting with environmental regulatory agencies.
Experience in providing Environmental compliance support.
Strong communication skills. Must be able to communicate with multiple disciplines (Operations, Project Management, Construction, Engineering, etc.), peers, and management.
Radiological Worker II training.
EPA Method 9 certification of experience
Compensation & Benefits
Grade 17:
Hiring Range Minimum: $94,650
Hiring Range Maximum: $119,250
Grade 18:
Hiring Range Minimum: $104,175
Hiring Range Maximum: $131,425

In accordance with the company's philosophy on compensation for exempt and salaried non-exempt employees, WRPS takes into consideration a variety of factors when determining initial salary to include assigned job scope and responsibility, a candidate's qualifications as compared to internal comparators performing in a similar role, and the external labor market. A salary offer will be made within the targeted hiring range posted. Note a candidate's prior salary history will not be taken into consideration.
