This position works with the company’s Mitigation Banking team and contributes to all stages of the environmental due diligence, impact assessment and environmental approvals process, including the planning and execution of field work for technical studies, development and undertaking monitoring programs, data analysis and management, reporting and permitting.
The Environmental Scientist performs directed and self-directed due diligence tasks to include vegetation monitoring, natural resource assessments, wetland delineations, Uniform Mitigation Assessment Method (UMAM) scoring and threatened and endangered species surveys. The Environmental Scientist will also conduct vegetative and water quality monitoring, protected species relocations and participate in a variety of local, state, and federal environmental permitting related to site development and mitigation banking projects throughout the State of Florida and the Southeast.
This position also delegates duties to support staff, as needed, to keep projects on time and under budget. The position also includes proposal writing, budgeting, and a solutions-based approach to complex environmental projects.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- College degree in botany, natural sciences, environmental studies, or equivalent
- 4-8 years of experience
- Excellent plant identification skills (e.g., visual identification, ability to use dichotomous keys, etc.)
- Familiarity with use of GPS devices and similar technology related to vegetation monitoring
- Experience conducting vegetation surveys, including fieldwork and data collection
- Experience in the setup and execution of monitoring events (e.g., transects, etc.)
- Experience in data analysis and interpretation
- Ability/stamina to endure the Florida outdoors (fieldwork)
- Ability to work independently and/or with others in the field
- Excellent reading and writing skills and the ability to write monitoring reports (e.g., narratives, tabular data, etc.)
- Clean, valid Driver’s License, for insurance purposes
- Minimum age 21 years old, for insurance purposes
- Able to pass a law enforcement background check and drug/alcohol screening
