Job Description
Looking to Spend Your Summer Outdoors?
Four Peaks has openings for seasonal environmental Field Technicians to support fisheries- and botany-focused field investigations and research activities throughout the Pacific Northwest. These positions would be great for prospective or current students looking to potentially pursue a career in fisheries or botany and looking to expand their field experience.
The majority of work (90%) will be in the field and may include work on reservoirs, boats, hydropower facilities, and potentially in remote sites near water. Tasks range from stream surveys to fisheries research using acoustic telemetry fish collection, botany surveys to field surveys of topography and stream geometry, water quality sampling, and moving and inventorying heavy equipment. There will also be office work (10%) that entails data entry and quality control. Office work may be performed remotely, at the discretion of the project manager.
Note: Workload may vary week to week, between 20 to 60 hours depending on project needs. In general, candidates would need to be prepared for changing plans, to be gone for a week at a time, work long days, and navigate variable weather conditions. Field sites may be remote with limited Internet or cell service (although there will always be a means to communicate in the case of an emergency), and transportation may not be available to get to field sites for all work, so candidates would need to provide their own means of transportation in some cases. Any personal vehicle usage would be reimbursed at the standard mileage rate. Ideally, candidates would be based near our Hood River, OR office.
Our field team is made up of smart, dedicated (and safe!) people whose work helps make our communities better. If you're interested in joining them for the summer, please upload your resume and let us know which focus you'd prefer. If your resume isn't super ecologically-focused, please feel free to upload a short cover letter letting us know about your other qualifications.
