Job description

Provides technical guidance on a wide range of environmental matters impacted by company operations and assets; provides advice in the environmental areas of air, water, waste, soil and groundwater. Performs site assessments, tests to ensure that safeguards are in place and aligned with company risk guidelines and regulatory requirements.


Verifies that environmental issues are addressed and mitigation measures are implemented. Manages environmental monitoring and reporting. Employees in this Job Category can support multiple environmental areas (air/water, waste/water, etc.).


Supports major customers/clients and leads projects of medium scope and complexity under limited supervision. Detailed knowledge of most aspects of the work function.

Responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to: Provides environmental support and leadership for RBU assets and activities pertaining to regulatory impacts. Provides technical guidance and direction on environmental matters including permitting, rule implementation, applicability determinations, data management, and reporting in the areas of air, GHG, water, waste, biodiversity and ecology, and soil and groundwater remediation. Collaborates with internal stakeholders (operations, engineering, etc.) to implement and verify environmental safeguards that maintain compliance with regulatory requirements and permits. Engages with trade organizations including Colorado Oil and Gas Association and Colorado American Petroleum Institute and external stakeholders including regulatory agencies, regarding permitting and compliance-related activities.


Supports implementation of the Chevron Operational Excellence (OE) Environment Risk Management Process to ensure that environmental risks are appropriately mitigated and safeguards in place. Supports major customers/clients and leads projects of medium scope and complexity under limited supervision. Detailed knowledge of oil and gas operations including facility processes and new development activities for construction, well drilling operations, and well completions.


Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to: 

  • Provides environmental support and leadership for RBU assets and activities pertaining to regulatory evaluations, potential impacts, advocacy, and implementation of final rules, implementation guidance documents from agencies or regulations.
  • Provides technical guidance and direction on environmental matters including permitting, rule implementation, applicability determinations, data management, and reporting in the areas of air, GHG, water, waste, biodiversity and ecology, and soil and groundwater remediation.
  • Collaborates with internal stakeholders (operations, engineering, etc.) to implement and verify environmental safeguards that maintain compliance with regulatory requirements and permits are in place and functioning.
  • Engages with external stakeholders, including regulatory agencies, regarding permitting and compliance-related activities.
  • Serves as the Chevron led for air emissions or other environmental focus areas within trade organizations at a state level. Works with internal stakeholders on Federal rules and advocacy.
  • Supports implementation of the Chevron Operational Excellence (OE) Environment Risk Management Process to ensure that environmental risks are appropriately mitigated and safeguards in place. 


Required Qualifications: 

  • A minimum of 5 years of related experience in air management with the oil and gas industry.
  • Bachelor's degree in chemical, environmental, or mechanical engineering or related degree.
  • Demonstrates proficient knowledge of Colorado Air Regulations including Regulation 3, 7, 22, 26 and Environmental Protection Agency.   
  • Demonstrates ability to advocate for the industry while participating in state and federal rulemaking activities. This includes hearings and stakeholder meetings.
  • Proficient with public speaking and communication of complex concepts into simple and understandable presentations to a wide audience including public forums.  


Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Able to work within Intelex ACTS in terms of reviewing data and exporting required data to support advocacy scopes of work.
  • Able to manage technical scopes of work with key internal and external stakeholders including management of contractors. Demonstrates the ability to complete R&D work than enables strategic and tactical objectives to support regulatory advocacy.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Has experience working with government and corporate affairs teams through endorsement of strategic organizational plans.

  • The anticipated salary range for this position is $114,500 – $196,400.
