Kaskaskia Engineering Group, LLC is searching for an experienced Environmental Planner to join our Planning and Preliminary Studies Team. Ideal candidates should have at least 10 years of progressive experience in the civil and environmental engineering industry. This position would report to the Environmental Team Lead. The candidate must reside in Illinois or Indiana, but remote work is a possibility for this position, depending upon the candidate’s ability to travel between KEG offices and project locations as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in Planning, Geography, Environmental Science, Botany/Plant Ecology, Zoology, Biology, Soil Science, or other allied natural/physical environmental resources disciplines. An advanced degree (Master’s) in one of these areas is preferred, but not required.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in environmental science and/or environmental engineering for civil infrastructure projects.
- Experience in preparing National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documents and state-level environmental compliance documents (modeled after NEPA) primarily for transportation sector projects.
- Experience mentoring and overseeing other team members in the preparation of NEPA documents and field studies reports.
- Possess some experience with the types of field studies needed for NEPA documents.
- Experience working on projects with DOTs and other state and federal agencies.
- Professional experience working with GIS software, such as ArcPro.
- Some travel is required. Candidates should be able to regularly travel (day and overnight trips) to complete field investigations. Travel amounts will vary depending on workload but will mostly occur during the growing season (March-October).
Responsibilities
- Performing analyses and preparing the associated technical environmental documents for both natural and man-made environment subject areas, including wetland and stream delineations, noise studies, air quality studies, socioeconomic and land use analyses, environmental justice studies, cumulative impact analyses and other environmental studies.
- Support the Environmental Team Lead and Deputy Team Lead in mentoring other team members and QA/QC of environmental deliverables.
- Performing environmental impact analyses, including but not limited to stream and wetland impact analyses, botanical and forest impact analyses, threatened & endangered species impact analyses, floodplain and water quality impact analyses, and other natural resources analyses.
- Preparing environmental documents for Categorical Exclusions (CEs), Environmental Assessments (EAs), and/or Environmental Impact Statements (EISs), Section 4(f) Statements, Section 7 biological assessments, and other necessary materials and reports.
- Performing environmental mitigation identification, preparing conceptual mitigation studies, and conducting mitigation site investigations during and post-construction.
