Summary of Role:
An Environmental Institute Instructor is responsible for facilitating outdoor, science-based, experiential learning for students K-10 during EUREKA!’s summer field programs. We are looking for applicants who love to adventure outdoors, have a passion for environmental science, and enjoy working with students in a wilderness setting. An instructor is responsible for helping to manage safety, logistics, gear, and fun on day-long and overnight trips.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Instructional Responsibilities
- Deliver / teach lessons that provide students with meaningful, hands-on learning experiences in educational programs outdoors
- Effectively manage student behavior
- Maintain an engaging, fun, safe, and secure environment for students
- Prepared for intensive programming during summer season
- Enthusiasm, initiative, and dedication to learn and create curriculum
Leadership & Teamwork
- Strong communication, leadership, and team building skills
- Provide outdoor recreation and risk management oversight
- Perform work independently and in a team environment
- Assist in the museum with EUREKA! daily operations and events on occasion
- Demonstrate ability to manage stress in a fast-paced environment
Public Relations Responsibilities
- Engage and interact with program participants and parents in a positive and professional manner
- Utilize effective written and oral communication techniques
- Dress and act in a program appropriate professional manner
Safety
- Adhere to and enforce EUREKA!’s safety policies, procedures and practices to ensure the safety of program participants and staff
- Assist with risk management practices associated with outdoor recreation / backcountry travel
REQUIREMENTS
- Successful outcomes on a criminal background check.
- Must be able to safely hike, mountain bike, rock climb, float/raft in remote areas.
- Must be able to maneuver, lift and carry materials, packages, and supplies up to 35lbs.
- Commit to minimum 6 full weeks in between May 28 - August 08
- Must have a current Wilderness First Aid Certificate (Wilderness First Responder preferred)
- CPR, First Aid, AED training required within 90 days of hire
- Must be over 21 years old
- Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to drive larger vehicles including, but not limited to, 12-passenger van, 14 passenger bus, trailer (CDL not necessary)
- Applicant must be available to work several multi-night expedition camps throughout the summer, sometimes multiple weeks in a row with weekend breaks.
- 1 year of experience working with youth in outdoor educational settings.

Wages are dependent on the applicant's qualifications. Starting range between $17 - $22/hr based on qualifications. Start date May 20, 2024
