Environmental Health Specialist

We are hiring an Environmental Health Specialist to join our amazing team in Cheyenne, Wyoming. The heart of public health is the community we work to protect. The well-qualified staff of the Environmental Health division are charged with the surveillance and control of Environmental Health Programs that affect our daily lives, including food, water, wastewater, disease investigations, all-hazards response, and public events.

As an Environmental Health Specialist, you will:

• Inspect public facilities such as restaurants, daycares, swimming pools, schools, massage, body art etc. for compliance with regulations and laws.
• Inspect on-site wastewater systems to ensure compliance with regulations.
• Investigate public health nuisances.
• Collect water samples for lab analysis.
• Assist in epidemiological data collection including food samples.
• Conduct complete and accurate Environmental Health inspections and investigations.
• Daily independent travel in Cheyenne Laramie County Public Health vehicle throughout Laramie County in various weather conditions.

If you are the right person for this opportunity, you will have the following skills and experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in a science related field
• Basic knowledge of chemistry, biology, or mathematics.
• Knowledge of basic food safety technology.
• Knowledge of water supply and sewage disposal systems.
• Clear and concise oral and written communication and the ability to interpret, explain, and ensure policy and procedure compliance.
• Judgment, flexibility, creativity, and sensitivity in response to changing situations and needs.
• Prior experience as an Environmental Health Specialist preferred, but not required.

Pay: $4,073.33 - $5,091.67 per month
