Job Description
The primary function of the Environmental Health and Safety Specialist will be to assist with the management of multiple sites in all aspects of regulatory compliance including Environmental, DOT/FRA, and OSHA. This position is directly involved in permitting for Title V, NPDES, ACOE, and any other state/county permits as needed.
Job Responsibilities:
- Project management involvement in ongoing environmental remediation
- Oversight and participation in safety programs including Hazardous Materials, BBP, Fire Prevention/Protection, Emergency Response, Confined Space Entry and Rescue, Respirator Program, Mobile Equipment, Record Keeping, and other General Safety requirements.
- Ensuring compliance with federal, state, local, and corporate environment, health, and safety standards such as, but not limited to: OSHA, TSCA, DOT, USCG, and EPA
- Provides advice and counsel to the sites and acts as an advisor to the Site Managers in matters pertaining to environmental, health, safety, and security of each site.
- Provides technical leadership and senior review of environmental technical reports including Investigation Plans, Corrective Action Plans, and Compliance Status Reports
- Ensures compliance with all applicable environmental regulations including managing and conducting multi-media environmental investigations and remediation projects onsite to delineate and mitigate onsite contamination, including supervising and coordinating third-party contractors.
- Continuously improve safety and environmental performance by investigating accidents, injuries, and hazards.
- Builds rapport and relationships with local networks, and agencies, and supports improvement teams.
- Audits facilities to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Collaborates with Site Management to institute control or remedial measures for hazardous or potentially hazardous conditions or equipment.
- Collects samples of hazardous materials and/or arranges sample collections. Develops waste profiles based on analytical results. Maintains inventories of hazardous materials or hazardous wastes.
Requires Education and Skills
- Experience in OSHA and Environmental Agency Reporting
- Ability to coordinate the activities of environmental, industrial hygiene, safety and health personnel in all matters pertaining to the compliance status of the sites.
- Must have excellent technical and analytical abilities to identify environmental, health, and safety trends and act appropriately to meet these requirements with minimum disruption and expense.
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Geology, or related scientific field
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in an Environmental Health and Safety position in chemical manufacturing or a similar industry
