Job Description
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Reports to the Quality Systems/Environmental, Health and Safety Manager.
- Monitors, evaluates, and enforces the PSI Environmental, Health and Safety programs.
- Conducts routine safety inspections and surveillances; ensures discrepancies are corrected.
- Reviews confined space permits.
- Maintains administrative files as required by the Health and Safety (H&S) Manual, NPDES permit and other requirements.
- Completes accident/incident/illness investigations and reports to Management and Corporate Insurance Department.
- Provides training as necessary to meet the requirements of regulatory agencies, the Health and Safety (H&S) Manual and to ensure the ongoing education and Safety of employees.
- Maintains safety training records.
- Assists with generation and conducts Activity Hazard Analysis (AHA) and Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) and ensures employees take required precautionary measures.
- Maintains HAZ/Non-HAZ waste site(s) and materials.
- Assists in performance of tasks related to environmental compliance with NPDES per management, state, and/or federal laws, rules, and/or regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Specific to PHNSY:
- Start 0600.
- Assists trades with writing JHAs prior to work start.
- Conducts monthly safety brief with PHNSY team.
- Verifies WAFs, confined space entry permits, hotwork permits & staging tags are up-to-date.
- Daily Inspections - paint locker, flam lockers, laydown area housekeeping, etc. (produce daily report, update logs & verify correct labeling).
- Weekly Inspections - SDS binder, medical supply cabinets.
- Submits monthly EPCRA/NESHAP reports to BAE.
- Inspects fire extinguishers (fill out monthly forms).
- Ship walks – join BAE for daily ENV & safety walks (at least 1 daily walkthrough for each ship with active jobs).
- Waste disposal - assist trades w/ filling out paperwork & verify waste properly disposed.
- Hazardous substance control forms – collect info from sups, complete & submit form
- Conducts respirator fit testing.
- Ensures all trades on base have up-to-date SHE training & fire watch cards.
- Provides 1st aid & ensure medical.
- Conducts accident/injury investigations; ensures injured personnel receive medical attention.
- Collects JHAs at end of shift & maintain files.
- Attends monthly BAE SHE meeting.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 2 years in field of industrial safety position in the marine repair/construction industry preferable.
- OSHA 30-hour maritime or general industry certification.
- OSHA HAZWOPER 40-hour certification preferred.
- EM-385-1-1 certification preferred.
- Confined Space Competent Person certification preferred.
- Ability to effectively operate office equipment, to include desktop computers, calculators, printers, copy machines and telephones..
- Must show proof of US citizenship.
- Valid driver’s license, Type 3.
- Able to pass and obtain Rapid Gate ID in conjunction with NCIC background check.
- Must be flexible in work hours, on call as needed.
