Job Description
Environmental, Health, and Safety Specialist implements, manages, and monitors HSE programs, policies, and procedures that meet OSHA, EPA, and other applicable requirements. Evaluates the organization's procedures, facilities and equipment by conducting inspections to identify unsafe conditions and to implement safeguards and solutions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintains and provides input as it relates to hazardous communications, including maintaining safety data sheets, chemical approvals, and batch sheet approvals
  • Able to research, write and deliver written standards, SOP's, Work Instructions and One Point Lessons.
  • Able to function as a trainer, delivering EH&S training to all audiences.
  • Participate in facility HSE compliance audits, inspections, and risk assessments, including participation during audits;
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with multi-disciplinary groups, such as Site Leaders, HSE, and Quality to establish cost effective and appropriate measures to reduce risks, comply with safety and health regulations, and to realize established objectives;
  • Work across multiple locations to oversee the development, implementation and evaluation of site procedures to assure personnel, contractor and facility compliance to regulatory and company requirements;
  • Ensure completion of incident investigations, root cause analysis, and trend analysis for incidents, including the identification of corrective actions, tracking actions to completion, and verification of the effectiveness of actions taken;
  • Support preparation of HSE permits and reports to ensure regulatory compliance with the operation and construction of air permits, waste management, worker protection, and Tier II requirements;
  • Provide technical and functional support to capital projects, new equipment purchases, expansions, mergers and acquisitions, divestments, and expense spending related to site improvement plans;
  • Influence key partners in a cross-functional environment to drive results, innovation, and collaboration at multi-functional sites
  • Lead and develop team members across the sites;
  • Mentor, coach and maintain a healthy working environment.
  • Creates a cross-functional safety committee, conducts ergonomic risk assessments/job hazard analyses, and initiates weekly safety walks with front-line operations teams to ensure completion of necessary safety and environmental inspections
  • Executes early management (MOC) reviews, performs infrequent-task risk assessments, provides new hire and follow-up safety training, conducts internal audits, performs loss trending and participates in the development of safety programs
  • Supports EBOS culture of continuous improvement through Gemba participation and Kaizen events
  • Evaluates SH&E performance using agreed KPIs and other recommended improvement opportunities including annual site SH&E plan

Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position will not have direct reports.
Qualifications
  • Required:
  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university
    Major(s): Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Risk Management, or other related field

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Demonstrates a strong knowledge of Safety, Health and Environmental regulations
  • Able to coach, develop and influence others without direct supervisory responsibility
  • Exhibits decision making skills
  • Maintains customer focus, while demonstrating courageous leadership
  • Exhibits attention to detail
  • Able to read and interpret written information
  • Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
