EH&S Coordinator
Objective and Scope of Position
The EH&S Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, and administering environmental and Health and Safety programs/policies and leading a culture of compliance to environmental and Safety regulations and policies. Acts as the primary customer interface within and coordinates the development of EH&S strategies. The incumbent is responsible for compliance with governmental and corporate EH&S regulations as well as internal EH&S goals and policies/processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Drives Best-in-Class Safety program to deliver a zero-mentality culture for safety incidences.
- Serves as Chair of the JH&S Committee and Environmental Committee.
- Maintain visible presence on plant floor across all shifts.
- Monitors working conditions and practices with respect to safe operations and the control of designated substances.
- Develops and acts as subject matter expert in environmentally safe and employee safe and healthy work environment.
- Develops/coordinates site specific training programs such as Lockout, Annual Safety and Environmental training, ensuring compliance with regulatory and standards.
- Provides direction for occupational hygiene, concerns and hazards material management.
- Studies new and revised legislations at the federal/state/ level and remains current with the latest safety and environmental requirements and documents and educates all employees accordingly.
- Implements EHS programs, policies and standards used by Employees, Supervisors, and Managers in accordance with legislative and corporate guidelines.
- Develops safety orientation, procedures and guidelines for employees, visitors and contractors.
- Leads safety orientation and training requirements as outlined under the appropriate acts and or requirements.
- Monitors plant to provide advice, make recommendations and drive improvements to ensure at minimum conformance with legal and corporate requirements under HS.
- Reviews all accidents/incidents, near misses. Provides recommendations and follow up as required and provides support with Accident Incident Investigation process.
- Conducts LPN audits as assigned.
- Ensures Risk Assessments are conducted when needed.
- Analyses accident statistics, EHS KMI’s and drives recommendations to management with implementation
- Develops Modified Work Program in conjunction with Human Resources.
- Provides KMI’s to Management in a timely manner to assist in continued improvement of workplace, health, safety, environment and loss control.
- Supports Ergonomic Champion and ergonomic activity. Is an Ergonomic Committee Member.
- Surveys the effectiveness of EH&S programs in place to ensure that programs are able to meet target EH%S objectives through the annual Health & Safety and Environmental audits.
- Liaison with corporate EH&S department for communications and audits and ensures action plan is developed in response to annual safety audits.
- Works in conjunction with the Engineering/Manufacturing team on the approval of new equipment and process design and ensure pre-starts are in place and completed.
- Participates in continuous improvement activities including driving CIP’s, submits improvement suggestions (CI, Safety).
- Ensure that company policies and procedures are adhered to including IATF16949, ISO14001 (EMS), and Employee Handbook.
- Responsible for promoting and seeking excellence in all aspects of business. Participates in continuous improvement activities, submits Cost saving improvement suggestions, CIP’s.
- Manage multiple projects and deliverables while treating team members with dignity and respect and in accordance with the Employee’s Charter and Common Values.
- Follows MIOSHA and Safety regulations and policies, including wearing required P.P.E. (Personal Protective Equipment). Reports unsafe conditions to Manager/Supervisor/Leader within their department.
- Management Representative responsible for compliance to ISO 14001, OHSA 18001, MIOSHA and standards.
Key Qualifications/Requirements
Bachelor’s degree with EH&S focus preferred. Sound knowledge of safety, environmental regulations, codes, legislative requirements relating to OHSA, MIOSHA and ISO14001. Minimum 3 years’ experience in a leadership capacity required. Minimum 5 years working experience in manufacturing environment in a Health and Safety capacity. Demonstrated leadership and problem-solving abilities. Excellent interpersonal and employee relations skills. In depth understanding of ISO 14001, OHSA 18001, MIOSHA standards. Workers Compensation claims management understanding. Extensive knowledge of safety principles and practices. Understanding of the principles and application of ergonomics. Experience in adult education and presentation/training skills. Ability to work in a team environment and individually. Familiarity/knowledge of metal stamping and machining process/equipment preferred. The ability to lead and drive performance and foster an environment of continuous improvement.
