We are seeking a full-time, Environmental Engineer for our Navajo Area Uranium Mines (NAUM) Response, Assessment, and Evaluation Services (RAES) Program out of our Albuquerque NM office location.
Responsibilities include, but aren't limited, to the following:
Design/construction oversight of disposal cells, waste piles, evaporative covers/caps, erosion and water controls, stormwater routing and controls, road design, slope stabilization, and restoration techniques.
Lead a team of engineers and scientists in the development of designs required to implement removal and remedial actions for cleanup of abandoned uranium mines.
Perform engineering design, develop plans, specifications, and cost estimating.
Conduct constructability evaluation of design with contractors.
Serve as an engineering resource for construction oversight of contractors implementing designs.
Support pilot studies of new technologies and approaches for mine clean up.
Provide constructability input on engineering alternative evaluations for removal and remedial actions at abandoned uranium mines.
Communicate with clients regularly about designs, plans, specifications throughout duration of projects.
Communicate with contractors and construction oversight crews during field events.
Interact with regulatory agencies.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10 - 15 years relevant engineering experience and will also have / be:
Knowledge of the Southwestern United States, mining and mine reclamation, uranium mining and mills, tribal lands and CERCLA sites.
Experience with heavy equipment, construction means and methods, and management activities.
Strong leadership skills and ability to mentor those with less experience to build a successful team/
Problem solving skills
Ability to clearly and concisely communicate with colleagues, clients, project teams, contractors and sub-contractors.
Degree / Certifications
Minimum of BS in engineering (civil, environmental or geotechnical) from an accredited United States college or university
Professional Engineer (PE) certification is required
40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification is a plus
30-hour OSHA Construction Safety certification is a plus
Work Environment
A Hybrid Office/Home assignment may be available if you are located within 100 miles of Flagstaff, AZ or Albuquerque, NM areas. You must be able to /have:
Travel occasionally (10% - 15%) out into the field. The field work is anticipated to be in remote areas of Arizona and New Mexico.
A physical capacity for working outdoors, often in isolated areas, is required.
Work outside in all weather conditions, including extreme hot and cold temperatures.
Walk on uneven and rugged terrain.
Carry heavy field equipment (35 to 40 pounds).
Don personal protective gear as required
This position requires you to drive on a regular basis and requires passing a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) background check. You must maintain a valid license, good driving record and up to date insurance coverage.
