What's the job?
This position acts as a resource within the facility to other departments regarding employee safety, ensures environmental compliance, identifies, and completes sustainability projects, and leads the plant environmental improvement efforts.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversight of all environmental and sustainability requirements for the plant.
- Lead the site efforts toward achieving company Energy, Emissions, Water, and Waste Objectives (2030 Goals)
- Manage assigned environmental and sustainability projects.
- Perform all internal and external environmental reporting requirements per CAA, RCRA, TSCA, CWA, etc.
- Oversee spill response team and spill cleanups
- Develop capital cost, design, and installation plans for new equipment specifically environmental equipment. Recommend equipment replacement to improve operations, reduce costs and energy usage.
- Secure required permits from governmental agencies for site permit renewal applications and equipment installations.
- Implementation of approved capital programs within budget and schedule plans.
- Participation in Equipment Safety Inspections.
- Provides support to maintenance & plant operations as needed.
- Manage the site Water Permits and Plans
- Assist with managing and disposal of the plant waste streams
- Develop and implement policies and procedures to continually improve the facilities environmental program
- Proactively manage plant environmental programs utilizing EvE
- Assess potential environmental risks and develop mitigation plans
- Identify root causes of environmental problems and propose appropriate actions plans.
- Coordinate with management to schedule periodic maintenance and upgrade activities to environmental control equipment.
- Monitors Federal, State and Local standards and regulations; recommends required new programs/elements to management and the Environmental Committee
- Maintain complete, clear and accurate documentations/reports for environmental activities at the facility
- Manage asbestos abatement plan and procedure
- Leads the hourly/salaried Energy/Sustainability Committee & maintains accurate minutes
- Assist with managing site internal SG (GAIA) requirements
- Assist with managing all employee environmental and sustainability training requirements and ensure they are up to date
- Evaluate data using standard statistical methods
- Coordinate plant environmental initiatives
- Work in coordination with department managers and regional EHS Managers
- Must be able to interact with all levels of plant personnel as well as contractors; possess strong social skills
- Ensures company methods and procedures for communicating environmental, health & safety matters to employees are effective, and employee concerns and suggestions receive prompt response by management
- Manage EHS calendars with periodic review
- Assist with managing site Radiation permit and related requirements
- Assist with managing industrial health monitoring and records of employee hazard exposure according to OSHA regulations
- Evaluates environmental impact of all projects and determines appropriate mitigation measures
- Investigate any environmental related incidents and ensure prompt corrective actions are implemented
- Assist with ISO 14001 and document management
- Assist with managing Gensuite related to environmental topics
- Assist with Health and Safety projects on occasion
- Will be required to perform other duties as requested, directed or assigned
What do you bring?
- Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, or similar Engineering degree or equivalent experience.
- Two - five years of experience in engineering in a manufacturing environment preferred
- General knowledge of Louisiana Environmental Protection Agency regulations
- Exposure to 5S Six Sigma is preferred
- CAD or AutoCAD skills and/or working knowledge of process engineering software.
- Ability to diagnose and prioritize opportunities in areas of savings, throughput improvement, and yield improvement.
- Must be able to design experiments and provide statistical analysis of those trials as to effectiveness.
- Familiarity with environmental licenses, permits and reporting (Air Quality Permit – Title V, Industrial Storm Water Permit, SPCC Plan)
- Ability to read, write, comprehend, and verbally communicate simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos in English
- Ability to perform all operations within acceptable quality and time standards
- Ability to effectively present information to employees at all levels of the organization
- Ability to recognize the quality expected and be able to reproduce it
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of changing situations
- Must be able to effectively use Microsoft Office including Excel/Word/PowerPoint
- Must have the ability to read, write, and perform mathematical computations at a level required for successful job performance
