Hexcel is currently seeking two Environmental Compliance Managers for our Salt Lake City, UT, USA, Matrix and Fibers manufacturing sites. Reporting to the Site Environmental Manager, these individuals will be responsible for leading and managing a variety of environmental systems to ensure compliance with state and federal requirements, including site permits, working collaboratively with site leadership. These two managers will work with operations leadership to prevent compliance deviations, impact to property and adjacent communities, while supporting the strong EHS culture.
The selected individual will be responsible for but not limited to the following obligations:

  • Establish, maintain, and manage an environmentally conscientious work environment, by driving engagement to maintain world class EHS performance and culture.
  • Co-lead the site Environmental Management System to maintain conformance with ISO 14001:2015 standards and continuously improve environmental performance, to include systems implementation, internal audits, certification audit management, etc.
  • Implement strategies and systems to support site staff in achieving and maintaining compliance with all applicable state and federal environmental laws and regulations.
  • Ensure routine inspections for Stormwater Pollution Prevention, Spill Prevention and Control and Countermeasures, Hazardous Waste, and Air Permit compliance are complete, and follow up on corrective actions, as needed.
  • Work with a small team of environmental technicians to collect environmental samples and data including water sampling, soil sampling, and air emissions, and maintain instruments in accordance with manufacturer recommendations. Analyze environmental data and incorporate into key site and corporate performance indicators, where applicable.
  • Support plant response to environmental incidents and conduct root cause analysis investigations to drive continuous improvement. Work proactively with production staff, engineers, and maintenance personnel to address and resolve issues affecting environmental performance.
  • Prepare and submit all required reports to UDEQ and EPA including, but not limited to, quarterly EPCRA Tier II, Toxic Release Inventory (TRI), Annual Emissions Inventory, Maximum Achievable Control Technology reporting, emissions source testing, greenhouse gas reports, air and water permit modifications and renewals, and other agency notifications.
  • Assist with supporting strategic energy assessments, and work with consultants and internal asset managers to identify opportunities and create strategic improvement plans for energy efficiency and carbon footprint reduction initiatives.
  • Be capable and interested in cross-functional training and growth opportunities in other aspects of site EHS management and leadership.
  • Participate in corporate audit programs and engage with Hexcel environmental leadership teams and global sustainability strategy and initiatives.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or related degree.
  • 2+ years of experience in the environmental field, with managerial/leadership experience strongly preferred.
  • 40 Hour HAZWOPER / M-9 VEE Certification a plus, along with other EHS-related certifications (e.g., CHMM, CSP, CIH, EIT or PE, etc.) preferred.
  • Work well in a team environment and be able to interface with employees daily.
  • Effectively influence site leadership and operations/maintenance staff to embrace compliance and cultural aspects of environmental and EHS management, pursuing an interdependent culture.
  • Plan and lead meetings and be able to interact with and influence regulators and NGOs.
  • Experience interacting with community action teams and local NGOs, where necessary.
  • Strong presentation skills with the ability to speak effectively in public and provide presentations to senior site leadership and shop floor staff.
  • Familiar with and able to accurately interpret Utah DEQ and EPA regulations, and corporate EHS standards and procedures.
  • Good organizational skills required, with strong commitment to EHS and safe work practices.
