Description of Position:
This position is responsible for providing cleaning and laundry services for the hospital.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
Housekeeping
- Cleans using a seven step cleaning process.
- Follows established hand washing techniques and universal precautions using gloves, gowns and/or masks while performing housekeeping and laundry duties.
- Ensures cleaning supplies are kept in a locked cabinet.
- Maintain patients’ rooms in a clean, safe, sanitary manner.
- Responds to patient complaints and requests in an appropriate and timely manner.
- Is respectful of other’s space and privacy, knocking before entering rooms.
- Removes Biohazard waste to the appropriate area.
- Uses housekeeping equipment in a safe manner.
Communication and Involvement
- Involved with patient, personnel, visitors, governmental agencies/personnel, etc., under all conditions and circumstances.
- Maintains a liaison with the patients, their family, support department, etc., to adequately plan for the patients care.
Basic UPH Performance Criteria
- Demonstrates the UnityPoint Health Values and Standards of Behaviors as well as adheres to policies and procedures and safety guidelines.
- Demonstrates ability to meet business needs of department with regular, reliable attendance.
- Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.
- Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, TJC, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
- Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.
- Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.
