Enviornmental Specialist

SUMMARY:
Maintain and repair all equipment related to the boilers, plant water system and monitor operation of ammonia system. Perform all related tasks for the proper tracking and documentation for the wastewater, process hazard analysis (PHA), Air quality permits, boiler permits, annual boiler inspections, monthly FGR readings, chemical inventory and water chemistry testing. All work is to be done in a timely fashion and completed properly. All documentation must be kept current and accurate at all times.
How you will make contributions that matter...

• Maintains and repairs all support equipment, such as boiler/condensate return system, monitor the operation of the ammonia systems, thermal storage unit, condenser, evaporators, sewer meters, conductivity meters, water meters, chemical storage area, etc.
• Develops, implements, and maintains environmental program.
• Maintains accurate recordkeeping of environmental activities, including all schematic and diagram changes.
• Develops and maintains an audit system to ensure regulatory compliance relative to environmental issues/concerns.
• Responds to environmental concerns and pursues remedies.
• Ensures that environmental considerations are taken into account in process modification, production change or plant expansion.
• Responsible for maintaining up-to-date environmental permits and licensing.
• Interacts effectively with Federal, State and local regulatory agency representatives and coordinates inspections and responds to inquires by such regulatory agencies.
• Participates as an active member of Emergency Response Team.
• Handling of chemicals for support equipment operation, such as chemical testing of boiler feed water, condensate, cooling tower water, ice bank chilled water, plant process water.
• Performs daily utilities readings and compiles, analyzes and interprets statistical data related to environmental exposure factors. Prepares appropriate reports as required..
• Responsible for ensuring appropriate disposal of hazardous waste per environmental regulations.
• Orders/maintains inventory for all equipment related to this position.
• Responsible for reporting environmental-related work orders and activity reports.
• Works safely and follows all safety procedures by using safety equipment where required.

You are best suited for this role if you...

• High school diploma and training with emphasis in electronics, instrumentation, refrigeration, electrical, and general mechanical; minimum of three (3) years of related plant maintenance and manufacturing environment experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Must be able to perform duties with minimum supervision in all key areas.
• Strong communication and analytical skills
• Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently.
• Self-motivated and ability to handle multiple demands and shifting priorities.
• Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

• Must be able to stoop, kneel, and squat for several minutes at a time
• Must be able to stand on feet for at least a two hour consecutive time period
• Must be able to lift up to eighty (80) pounds
• Must be able to enter into confined spaces
• Ability to reach with hands and arms, and talk and hear
• Employee is required to stand, walk, and use hands to finger, handle or feel
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perceptions and ability to adjust focus

Work Environment
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts
• Environment is occasionally damp and cold. Caustic, acid and chlorine chemicals will be used and may emit fumes into the air
• Floors may be wet and slippery
• Room temperatures will range from 35 degrees F. to excess of 130 degrees F
• The use of safety glasses, ear plugs, dust masks, rubber gloves, rubber boots and aprons are all necessary in this area

Salary Range: $81,255 - $106,650
