As part of the J.P. Morgan's Environmental & Social (E&S) Deal Services team, you play a central role in supporting the business and manage the E&S risks of clients and transactions. The team is part of the Corporate and Investment Bank (CIB) within the first Line of Defense (1LoD) and partners closely with Bankers, Deal Team Leads, and the Environmental & Social Risk team to provide efficient and timely Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) risks analysis during the execution of live deals.
In this role, your primary mandate is to support the Global Investment Bank (GIB) and Global Corporate Bank (GCB) and evaluate relevant transactions against the firm's E&S Risk Policy requirements. You will be responsible for assessing deals in scope and lead strategic internal activities with the support of the rest of the team. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain exposure to a broad spectrum of key E&S sectoral issues across multiple geographies and type of financial products (ECM, DCM, M&A, loans and credit facilities)
Job Responsibilities:
- Perform due diligence and manage E&S risks for transactions in scope
- Assess the E&S profile and performance of clients
- Liaise closely with the 2 Line of Defense and different ESG teams when required
- Advice Bankers and Deal Team Leads on E&S issues (requirement, best practices, regulatory development)
- Act as an E&S subject matter expert
- Strengthen the training of Bankers and Deal Team Leads on E&S risk requirements
- Contribute to the strategic planning process, objectives and key results of the team
- Improve the E&S operational procedures and due diligence review processes
- Develop key researches and materials related to E&S topics
- Build close relationships with a broad set of internal stakeholders to shape the broader E&S agenda of the firm
Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills:
- 5+ years of relevant ESG and/or sustainability experience (including financial services industry with exposure to ESG analysis, consultancy firms or roles within key industries, e.g. oil and gas, mining)
- University degree in a relevant field (e.g., environmental studies, sustainability, geography, development economics, finance)
- Good understanding of financial markets, banking products and decision-making processes;
- Proactive/self-starter with the ability to deliver value-added support to business partners and clients in timely and accurate manner
- Ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines
- Ability to convey information clearly, accurately and succinctly (both written and verbally)
- Excellent analytical and interpersonal skills
- Flexibility to handle multiple tasks and changing priorities with strong management skills
- Knowledge of the broader sustainable finance regulatory agenda and products
- Knowledge of market developments (Taxonomies, Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures, Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures, ESG ratings, International Capital Market Association, Loan Market Association)
- Knowledge of Equator Principle and IFC Performance Standard
- Data driven person oriented to sustainability
