What You Will Be Doing at Woodard & Curran:
An entry-level Environmental Scientist will assist with technical tasks supporting site investigation, risk assessment, and remediation projects. Position responsibilities will support the characterization and risk assessment of contaminated sites, remediation system design and operation, system monitoring, data management/tracking and reporting. Fieldwork, data management, report writing and interaction with project staff will play an important role in the candidate's success. Potential assignments in this role may include:

  • Field work, which may include habitat assessment/evaluation as well as collection of environmental samples in support of site investigation and remediation objectives.
  • Assisting in conducting human health and ecological risk assessments;
  • Assisting in the preparation of various regulatory submittals, work plans, technical memorandums, and/or other reports.
  • Managing, analyzing, evaluating, and interpreting data for use in reports and other visualizations including maps, charts, and 3D models.

Candidate should be a self-starter and possess strong technical and writing skills to support a wide range of science and engineering projects. A successful candidate will also be detail-oriented, have excellent verbal communication skills combined with a positive attitude, and ability to work both independently and within teams.
What You Will Need To Succeed:
  • BS or BA (MS/MPH preferred), with a strong background in chemistry, biology, geology, environmental science, toxicology, biostatistics or related field.
  • 0-3 years experience in conducting human health and/or ecological risk assessments (some experience is preferred but we are willing to train if hire has the desired academic background).
  • Must have strong computer skills in Word, Excel, Access; preference for familiarity with statistical programs (such as R), environmental databases, GIS, and coding (Python).
  • Excellent writing and communication skills (will require writing sample).
  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER training (preferred but not mandatory).
  • Experience in environmental data evaluation/management, CERCLA/State site investigation is highly desired.
  • Ability/desire to conduct some field work (habitat assessments, sample collection etc.), with acknowledgement that this is mainly an office-based position.
  • Must be able to work independently, communicate effectively and balance multiple projects and tasks.

Compensation
Pay:
This position's anticipated pay range is provided below; final exempt salary or non-exempt hourly pay will be dependent on experience level as well as considering a % based geographic differential based on where the final candidate will be working. Geographic differentials are used to recognize and reflect cost of labor differences between geographic markets.
Annual Incentive Bonus Opportunity:
Eligible positions may receive an annual cash bonus based on the role's organizational level, and is represented as a percentage range of eligible earnings**
Pay Range
$44,953.00 - $67,429.00

  • 401(k) or Roth: Company will match equal to 100% of the first 3% of salary contributed, All employees are eligible to participate in the 401(k) plan and 100% vested in the value of own contributions and any employer matching contributions.

Time away from work:
  • Vacation time is provided to full and part-time regular employees. Vacation is accrued, based on number of hours worked per week as well as prior years of experience.
  • Woodard & Curran offers paid sick time to eligible employees who are absent due to their own non-work related, illness, injury, or medical procedure.
