Job description

The Philadelphia Team of Jacobs is seeking an Entry-Level GIS Professional with an interest in water, wastewater, and stormwater utility mapping. This unique position is ideal for recent graduates or individuals new to the GIS field who exhibit an exceptional attention to detail and a genuine eagerness to learn and grow within the industry.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Plans and conducts work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, and adaptation of best practices, techniques, procedures, and criteria.
  • Demonstrates solid data management/analytical skills and great attention to detail.
  • Executes GIS data conversion/editing, GIS map production, spatial database management, and spatial analysis/reporting tasks.
  • Under close supervision, the individual performs the routine aspects of GIS assignments requiring knowledge and application of basic GIS principles.
  • Assists with standard GIS analysis, mapping techniques, and data collection tools.
  • Support experienced team members in larger GIS projects, gaining exposure to advanced techniques and methodologies.
  • Assist in documenting workflows and procedures, ensuring clarity and consistency
  • Demonstrates passion for GIS principals and how they relate to Asset Management.
  • Actively seeks feedback and participates in training sessions to enhance GIS knowledge and skills.
  • Ability to work remotely with occasional travel.

  • BA/BS degree from an accredited College or University in Geography, Planning, Natural Resources, Engineering, or related field; or equivalent work experience.
  • 1 - 2 years of prior experience conducting GIS editing in a professional environment preferred.
  • Water utility experience desirable (water, wastewater, stormwater).
  • Excellent oral and written communications, self-motivation, team-oriented work practices, strong analysis & technical problem solving, and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate understanding of GIS principals.

Software

  •  Suite of ESRI products including but not limited to: ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Portal, ArcGIS Online, Field Maps, Survey 123, Operations Dashboards
  • Microsoft Office products - Word, Excel (required)
  • SQL Server Management Studio - basic understanding of SQL code language (desired)
