From earthquake and seismic engineering to the latest trenchless technology methods, Kleinfelder's Geotechnical Services support the planning, engineering, and construction of complex projects, and our specialists are leading experts in their fields.
Step into Your New Role Kleinfelder is seeking an Entry-Level Civil Engineer, Geotechnical Engineer, or Geologist with 0 to 2 years of experience to join us in either our Boston or Worcester, MA offices. Candidates experienced in construction material testing and/or geotechnical laboratory testing will also be considered for this position.
Travel to project sites and other Kleinfelder offices is required. Drilling and construction observation assignments should be expected for about 60 percent of the applicant's time. The other 40 percent will be split between geotechnical laboratory work and office tasks. Occasional out-of-State assignments within Kleinfelder's east division (mainly PA, MD, NJ, ME) is anticipated. Kleinfelder will provide travel expense reimbursement for in State and out-of-State traveling.

The basic skills required for this position include:
- A BS in Civil Engineering with a focus on Geotechnical Engineering or Geology or a strictly related field
- Proficiency with the use of - or the ability to readily learn - basic geotechnical software such as gINT or Geosystem.
- Proficiency with MS Office
- A valid US driver's license and personal vehicle
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to organize priorities and multi-task effectively, and
- A thirst to learn and achieve continuous improvement in a team environment
- A can-do attitude and problem-solving mindset are essential
Preferred candidate experience include:
- Organization and performance of field investigations,
- Logging of geotechnical borings and test pits including soil and rock classification,
- Execution of geotechnical laboratory testing,
- Execution of field material testing (soil and concrete),
- Performance of basic engineering analyses under the guidance of a professional engineer,
- A demonstrated experience with, or the ability to readily learn earthwork and foundation construction observation.
Other desirable skills include:
- A MS in Geotechnical Engineering
- Strong understanding of soil behavior and geotechnical principle necessary for the design of shallow foundations, deep foundations, retaining walls, excavations, etc.
- Proficiency with the use of advanced geotechnical software such as the GeoStudio software suite (Slope/W, Seep/W, etc) Slide, Phase2, Settle 3D, L-Pile, Group, WEAP.
- Experience with GIS and CAD
- Deep foundations installation observations
