We seek a Research Technician III to join a dynamic and growing team at the Walter Reed Biosystematics Unit (WRBU) Entomology Branch. The WRBU is focused on providing accurate morphological and molecular identification services, and developing identification and vector risk assessment tools for utility on a global stage. The Walter Reed Biosystematics Unit (WRBU) is a unique national resource for biosystematics research on medically important arthropods, and serves to maintain the U.S. mosquito collection, housed within the Smithsonian Institution National Museum of Natural History (SI-NMNH). The purpose of the WRBU is to conduct laboratory and field biosurveillance research on the systematics of medically important arthropod species and species groups in support of epidemiological studies and disease control strategies of importance to the military. The WRBU is focused on providing identification services and developing identification and vector risk assessment tools that support vector-borne disease mitigation efforts worldwide. Products and services are targeted to support ongoing or potential DoD missions, while fostering the interagency relationship between the WRAIR and SI-NMNH. WRBU provides taxonomic expertise support to tri-service forces, and research efforts are carried out worldwide, with regionalization or faunistic restrictions dictated by military priority.
