TITLE: English as a New Language Teacher - Secondary

SUMMARY OF OPPORTUNITY:
The English as a New Language Teacher, Secondary works with English learners (ELs) in developing English skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. The ENL teaches a student-centered ENL course to all English Learners based on the WIDA Standards. The ENL teacher also collaborates with classroom teachers in ensuring best practices for ELs are implemented throughout the school day and that the ILP is implemented with fidelity.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
The following outlines what your core duties and responsibilities will be for this position and provides a sample overview of what your day-to-day may look like.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
? Develop Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) for all EL students
? Monitor Fluent English Proficient (FEP) students who have exited from ENL services within the last two years
? Maintain cumulative folders with required paperwork for English learners ? Run student reports weekly to ensure accuracy of data
? Assist in administering required language proficiency (WIDA Screener/ACCESS) and academic achievement tests within the required time frame
? Collaborate with classroom teachers on the implementation of ILPs for all EL students ? Provide language development support via the English as a New Language class and through push in support in classrooms (if applicable based on school model) ? Utilize WIDA framework and standards in the development of lesson plans ? Employ a variety of instructional techniques and teaching strategies to meet different aptitudes and interests of students, including whole group (co-teaching)/ small-group or individual learning
? Attend IEP, Section 504, or other related meetings necessary for student assessment and/or compliance with federal and/or state law
? Work towards building a positive self-image in English learners
? Help students view their culture and themselves with pride
? Help the school staff to be aware of and sensitive to cultural differences ? Assist in collecting and analyzing data for increasing student achievement ? Establish and maintain communication with parents of students in the program ? Other duties as assigned
"Day In the Life" Overview
On a regular day, as an ENL Teacher, you might:
? Teach three sections of the ENL course to one grade level in mixed-ability classes ? Meet with a grade-level PLC to determine scaffolds for English Learners ? Make phone calls to parents to discuss student progress

? Bachelor's Degree
? Must hold a valid Indiana State Teacher's License OR must be eligible to secure an Indiana State Teacher's License via reciprocity, emergency or alternative pathways ? ENL License
