Starting at $40,000 bachelor's degree; $45,000 master's degree
Great benefits package included.
Power Technical (PTEC) is a grades 6-12 school and we are seeking highly motivated individuals to join our team in the newest James Irwin Charter School. This is a completely new type of school that is focused on teaching skilled trades such as welding, machining, construction, electrical wiring, plumbing, CAD, and more. Teachers will work in a high energy environment where we will create lesson plans that support not only math, science, history, and English but work to integrate everything we do into woodshops, metal shops, and other trade related activities. Our approach to Lean Education will help to streamline the teacher planning process with common goals in mind and support student achievement through hands-on learning activities. Students will not only learn theory, they will put that theory to practice each day.
Job Summary:
An English teacher at PTEC has a multi-faceted job: he or she is responsible for planning the curriculum from the selected texts from a variety of writing styles and time periods, independently teaching several sections of this course (sometimes to include honors sections as well), and assessing student growth and progress through a variety of standards in the areas of vocabulary, grammar, reading, writing, and research. The literature selection must include novels, plays, poetry, and nonfiction at all grade levels from the pre-approved curriculum list. This position may cover high school and/or middle school students.
The teacher is also required to keep regular contact with parents/guardians of students who are not mastering the material, and teachers are encouraged to support students individually as much as possible.
In the English department, teachers must assign and grade two writing assignments per week to support student growth in organization, conventions, style, and mastery of course content.
Teachers also create their own lesson plans weekly and post these plans for approval from the department head. There are many resources available to the teacher for the creation of the lessons, and collaboration between teachers and departments is encouraged.
Teachers at PTEC also aim for being data-oriented and aware of student performance in general, especially on standardized tests. Teachers do this through bi-monthly grade book annotations. Teachers are also responsible for creating and administering quarterly assessments (mid-terms and finals) in addition to the unit assessments, to ensure student mastery and to keep the curriculum and standards as consistent as possible from year to year.
All PTEC teachers also share several extra responsibilities including monitoring detention, covering the lunchroom, working in the carline, chaperoning after school activities, proctoring study halls and/or labs. These responsibilities will be assigned during pre-service training and maintained throughout the academic year.
Qualifications:
Minimum Work Experience and Education: * PTEC follows the Colorado Department of Education State ESSA plan requirements for In-Field qualifying standards* in hiring teachers of core subjects. Therefore, the successful candidate needs to hold at least one* of the following in the subject area in which they have been assigned to teach in order to be considered In-Field:
