ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNER INTERVENTIONIST
QUALIFICATIONS: Oklahoma Certificate (required), Experience in teaching foundational language acquisition skill to English Language Learners
REPORTS TO: Principal

POSITION DESCRIPTION: The ELL Interventionist works with administrators, Reading Specialist, classroom teachers, campus support staff and central office instructional and support staff to plan and implement quality reading instruction as well as interventions for students in need of support. The ELL Interventionist/reading evaluates students to determine reading strengths and weaknesses, and plans and implements programming for parent involvement and family reading. Reading programs and design are based on the Science of Reading (SOR).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Provide direct instruction and support services for students experiencing reading difficulties.
  • Evaluate students for strengths and weaknesses in reading/language arts.
  • Participate in development of 504 and IEP accommodation and modification plans.
  • Test students for dyslexia and provide appropriate instructional interventions for identified students.
  • Plan, demonstrate, co-teach, and coach with classroom teachers.
  • Meet with grade level teams to assist in implementation of reading/language arts curriculum.
  • Serve as a resource for professional materials and instructional strategies/materials.
  • Assist administration in identifying campus weaknesses in reading/language arts.
  • Assist teachers in disaggregating and analyzing data from diagnostic benchmarks.
  • Assist teachers in developing curriculum-based assessments and instruction.
  • Participate in position-related professional development.
  • Provide support for family reading opportunities/other campus reading initiatives.
  • Work closely with parents to assist students with reading difficulties.
  • Perform other duties as directed by administration.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
  • Knowledge of current computer software packages and classroom technology tools.
  • Proven ability to work effectively and communicate with parents, community, students and staff
  • Service-oriented mindset and an inclination towards creative problem solving
  • Individuals should be self-motivated, organized and able to manage multiple, diverse projects at once.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
Regular classroom/school environment. Regular office environment, including frequent use of electronic email, being able to sit for long periods of time without a break, etc. Normal effort of occasional periods of moderate physical activity. Work is typically performed in an office environment with some travel to other campuses. Interruptions are expected to occur often. Must be able to adapt and respond quickly to constantly changing technology.
