Georgia Fugees Academy Charter School (GFACS)
is seeking innovative, passionate English Teachers
who possess an unwavering commitment to our mission and the willingness to go above & beyond to meet the needs of students, families, and staff. Please note that while this is a middle-school-level opening, our instructional scope begins with Kindergarten level material. The English teacher should expect to deliver targeted instruction in foundational skills using Amplify Skills curriculum. They will also follow the “knowledge-strand” of that curriculum, building comprehension skills through listening and speaking activities as outlined by an established scope and sequence. Most Fugees Academy students begin middle school performing well below grade level; our double-blocked English classes are a critical part of helping them build the necessary skills to reach grade level by the time they begin high school. The English teacher will be part of a team that is committed to learning and growing together through a process of collaboration and coaching.
Required Education, Qualifications, and Experience:
- Minimum 2 years of full-time classroom teaching experience, preferably in an urban setting
- Outstanding instructional skills, including the ability to motivate and challenge students
- Demonstrated ability to create and maintain a warm, strict, orderly classroom environment
- A strong sense of personal accountability for student achievement and believe that all students can achieve
- A belief that building deep, authentic relationships with students and families is a priority
- Citizenship, residency, or work VISA in the United States required
- Experience with a research-based literacy program is preferred but not required
- Knowledge of and demonstrated experience with Science of Reading principles is appreciated, and familiarity with Amplify/CKLA a plus
- GaPSC Certification in English is preferred but not required
- Special Education (general curriculum) certification and experience a plus
- Previous experience working with English Learners is a plus
