English As A Second Language Teacher

NYGC is an ESL institution located at Flatiron District, providing quality language courses for international students from all over the world. Our mission is to provide quality and accommodating English language instruction for a diverse international and local student population through innovative English teaching methodologies for their personal, academic and professional needs.

We are looking for dedicated, passionate, and technology proficient teachers with professional TESOL training to join the faculty team.

Monday-Wednesday 8:30am-2:30pm
Monday-Wednesday 2:30pm-8:30pm
Thursday-Friday 8:30am-5:30pm
Thursday-Sunday 5:30pm-10:00pm
Saturday-Sunday 8:30am-5:30pm

Job Functions and Duties

• Develops lesson plans and teaching materials according to the curriculum and syllabus.
• Implements effective class management techniques and strategies.
• Conducts classes and providing instruction based on student learning needs.
• Evaluates student progress through assessments and class performances.
• Creates a supportive learning environment and being sensitive to student’s cultural differences and needs.
• Maintains record of student attendance, scores of the assessments, lesson plans, and request forms.
• Plans and leads cultural related fieldtrips during the class hour once a semester.
• Collaborates with colleagues in developing and implementing curriculum or sharing teaching resources and ideas.
• Stays current with ESL teaching methods, resources, and materials.
• Attends faculty meetings monthly.
• Follows the policies and procedures of New York General Consulting.
• Provides test prep instruction (for test prep instructors): Instructors may also provide test prep instruction for students who are preparing for standardized English language tests such as TOEFL or GRE. This can involve teaching test-taking strategies, reviewing test content, and providing practice exercises.

Teacher Qualification

Teachers need to have a BPSS ESOL license to teach with NYGC.

For faculty teaching in our General ESL Program and our English in Practice (EIP) programs, the requirements are as follows:

• Bachelor’s degree as the baseline qualification or higher
• If the bachelor’s degree is not ESL or TESOL, language teaching faculty must have ESL/EFL/TESOL certificate that includes instruction as follows;
• Language teaching methodology
• The nature of language/languages (e.g., introduction to linguistics)
• The structure of English (e.g., syntax, phonology, morphology, discourse
• Second language acquisition
• Intercultural communication (e.g., sociolinguistics, cross-cultural studies)
• Practicum experience
• Minimum 1-year teaching experience in a postsecondary institution
• Demonstrated proficiency in the English language
• Successful commitment of demonstration lesson. During the interview process, a prospective instructor will be asked to teach a demo class in which supervisors and other instructors measure their teaching, classroom management, as well as language proficiency skills

For Faculty teaching in our Test Prep program, the requirements are as follows:

• Master’s degree or higher as the baseline qualification or higher
• If the Master’s degree is not ESL or TESOL, language teaching faculty must have ESL/EFL/TESOL certificate that includes as follows;
• Language teaching methodology
• The nature of language/languages (e.g., introduction to linguistics)
• The structure of English (e.g., syntax, phonology, morphology, discourse)
• Second language acquisition
• Intercultural communication (e.g., sociolinguistics, cross-cultural studies)
• Practicum experience
• Minimum 1-year teaching experience in a postsecondary institution
• Demonstrated proficiency in the English language

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 18 – 36 per week
