We are looking for an ESL Instructor. The ESL instructor will teach skills and curriculum to individuals with primary language other than English. The ESL instructor must be able to teach to a diverse group of individuals. Effective oral and written communication skills are required to successfully deliver curriculum and meet teaching standards. Instructor will develop and deploy effective and innovative teaching strategies to meet the needs of all learners.
Primary Functions
- Foster a stimulating environment that encourages student participation, interpersonal skill development and reinforces critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Maintain a classroom environment that is conductive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students.
- Provide instruction to students utilizing resources and curricula identified for the project, primarily literacy skills
- Conduct student educational assessments of participants.
- Create and maintain confidential student files including student registration, assessments, educational plans, class attendance, test scores, exam completion records, etc.
- Monitor students’ progress and program progress toward performance outcomes.
- Develop and implement academic and enrichment activities aimed to improve student outcomes, primarily literacy skills
- Enter program data into the online reporting system and prepare monthly narrative program reports.
- Communicate with supervisor and report outcomes on a consistent basis as per contract deliverables.
- Continue to encourage students to continue their advancement by providing assistance in pursuing higher education or vocational training programs after graduation.
- Facilitate appropriate referrals and serve as liaison to assure connections with support services that are consistent with student’s needs.
- Participate in outreach efforts to recruit students and develop retention plans for participants.
- Coordinate and participate in additional activities, i.e. field trips, special events, etc. for participants.
- Make referrals of participants to other MNC departments for services relevant to participant needs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Master’s in TESL, TESOL, applied linguistics with a TESL emphasis, linguistics with a TESL emphasis, English with a TESL emphasis, or education with a TESL emphasis; OR BA degree in Education, English, Psychology, Social Work or related field, with TESL certificate. Minimum of 1 year experience working with diverse students towards self-sufficiency in a learning organized setting.
- Previous college-level teaching experience preferred. Experience developing and using effective and innovative teaching strategies to meet the needs of all learners.
Requirements
- Current Physical Health Screening (every 2 years thereafter)
- Fingerprinting Clearance (DOJ/FBI) and Clearance Child Abuse Index
- Current Immunizations (TB, Influenza, MMR, Pertussis) (must be kept current)
- Current CPR & First Aid Certificate (every 2 years thereafter)
- Current CA Driver’s License, current auto insurance and a clean driving record.

- Personality - Independent thinker, possess excellent customer service skills, professional attitude, a high level of personal integrity, maturity, and business judgment required.
- Performance - Able to multi-task, prioritize task, meet deadlines, able to do presentations and to maintain confidential information. Strong analytical skills and demonstrated attention to detail.
- Communication - Strong written and verbal communication skills. Must be a well-organized professional who thrives in a team-oriented environment.
- Stress Management - Ability to remain tactful under pressure and present a professional demeanor and communication style with co-workers in a multicultural setting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications: Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Internet Explorer.
- Decision Making: Set priorities and standards of performance; Develop plans by which work can be accomplished.
- Standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
- Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality when dealing with client information.
