ABOUT THIS POSITION
The City of Phoenix Planning and Development Department (PDD) guides the physical development of the city by preserving our historic sites, planning what can be built where, and ensuring the safe construction of buildings and infrastructure. PDD is looking to fill multiple vacancies for an Engineering Technician in the Management Services Division and the Plan Review Division.
Management Services
The Management Services team consists of a large group of employees who intake the vast majority of all Planning and Development submittals. This includes screening packages for completeness and performing quality assurance on conditions, flags, and holds prior to permit issuance. The team is responsible for intaking all plan review types including commercial, residential, civil, fire prevention, and site plan reviews. This position will assist customers over the phone, in person, via email, and through ProjectDox and online systems. This includes assisting with customer workshops and answering customer inquiries by phone and email within the same business day.
This position will also be responsible for guiding EPR customers step by step through the PDD Online and ProjectDox programs as well as taking payments and scheduling appointments. Responsibilities will include creating plan reviews, inserting fees, notifying customers of plan completion, and issuing permits. These positions will run daily quality assurance reports for payment and customer processes.
Plan Review
The Plan Review ET will work at the Civil Permits and Water Services counter. The position is responsible for processing and taking payments for civil permits and water/sewer services, answering phone calls, faxes, and emails, researching water/sewer data, researching project status for customers, verifying addresses, assigning right-of-way addresses. They will assist internal customers & external customers, including processing paperwork for the Water Department and Streets Department.
Opportunity to Underfill at the Customer Service Clerk*Plans level.
This position is responsible for answering telephone calls and relaying information or directing the caller to the appropriate persons for action, performing data entry and retrieval for staff and customers, providing customer referral or information service activities, updating daily logs, and verifying information on building permit applications for accuracy and completeness. This assignment differs from the base classification of Customer Service Clerk due to the higher level of discretion exercised in conducting research; and deciding, based on information available, which departments or divisions will be required to review and evaluate the building plans or which inspectors should be sent on priority calls.

- Proficient communication skills to assist internal and external customers in a fast paced public setting.
- Knowledge of research methods to utilize multiple resources and provide accurate records.
- Ability to work with quick turnaround times and meeting established deadlines.
- Ability to complete assigned tasks using knowledge and resources with limited direct supervision.
- Ability to prepare and update statistical reports.
SALARY
Engineering Technician
Pay Range: $18.16 to $32.62 per hour.
Hiring Range: $18.16 to $26.83 per hour.
Customer Service Clerk*Plans
Pay Range: $17.72 to $30.31 per hour.
Hiring Range: $17.72 to $24.93 per hour.

Engineering Technician
- One year of experience in paraprofessional engineering work

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:
- Cash handling experience.
- Experience in data entry.
- GIS or mapping system experience.
- Experience providing Customer Service by telephone, email, or in person.
- Experience working with computers and knowledge of computer software applications such as Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
