As an Engineering Technician 3 with the Development Services Inspection Team, you will play a vital role in ensuring that developer funded projects are built to meet requirements as specified in the approved plans and specifications. You will work on a variety of projects that include single family home construction, commercial/industrial building construction, road construction and subdivision construction. You will be the primary County inspector responsible for verifying that sanitary sewer, storm drainage facilities, roads and grading are built in accordance with approved plans and specifications. You will work closely with contractors, engineers, builders, planners, biologists, surveyors, and the general public. You will play a key role during construction as the front-line County representative communicating with the contractor. While you primarily will work independently you will be supported by your inspector coworkers, supervisor, county subject matter experts and management team. How to be Successful in the Role:
We are looking for you to have familiarity with the skills and knowledge of WSDOT Standard Specifications and Pierce County Standards with an ability to apply those documents to project inspection. The capability to communicate well in person and in writing are critical. To ensure success you will be expected to have the ability to understand construction sequencing and be able to explain details related to approved plans, project specifications and materials standards to the contractor. We are looking for you to be a "self-starter", who is a detail oriented, with a positive attitude, mission focused and who can communicate transparently and concisely.

Core Daily Responsibilities:
- Writes technical reports, or letters to support an engineering task or job function, records information for future use in an engineering function or job.
- Provides technical information and explains policies and procedures to the public, other staff, or groups in person, on the telephone or in writing.
- Performs difficult engineering calculations, drafting, and mapmaking to support a major engineering task or job function; prepares "as built" drawings for approval by civil engineers.
- Conducts on-site inspections or performs the inspection of materials and projects for contract compliance; prepares inspection reports for routine projects.
- Interprets plans and specifications to ensure compliance with project documents as inspector-in-charge of routine engineering projects.
- Develops and maintains project files and other records.
- Additional experience may substitute equally for the recruiting requirements.
- Two years of college or post-high school technical training.
- Two or more years of progressively responsible related experience.
- A valid Washington State driver's license will be required.
