Engineering Manager
Title: Engineering Manager FTE Status: Full Time
FLSA Status: Exempt Reports To: CEO/PRESIDENT
Primary Purpose of Position:
Manages a team of engineers. Operates as a working manager in R & D and manufacturing environment. Performs duties personally and/or through subordinate team of engineers in the development, optimization, support, and continuous improvement of the manufacturing and prototyping processes to meet ICE’s customer needs using continued innovative product/manufacturing leadership.
Manages from customer concept through product design/development to production release with team consisting of manufacturing, mechanical, process, and quality engineers.
Operates as member of senior executive team contributing to strategic direction of ICE
Essential Functions:
- Prioritizes, delegates and monitors engineering projects for team of engineers
- Monitors, delegates, mentors, coaches, supervises engineering team and hold subordinates accountable to delegated duties, projects, prototype development, schedules, and budgets
- Works directly with CEO/President in selecting and prioritizing engineering projects and duties. Responsible for individual and team progress to CEO/President
- Provides new equipment estimates for management decisions re: project times, engineering staff requirements and related costs
- Supports and ensures an accurate document control system, providing drawing, model, quality, and technical information tracking/control
- Develops R&D investment criteria and new product prioritization
- Leads creation and development of equipment upgrade & process automation roadmap.
- Responsible for expansion & development of engineering staff core competencies
- Involved with customer issues and interdepartmental communications for resolution. This includes direct customer contact.
- Develops, evaluates, and improves manufacturing methods, utilizing knowledge of product design, materials, fabrication processes, tooling, and production equipment capabilities
- Reviews working drawings and computer solid models from engineering staff
- Supports quality control and implementation of continuous improvement
- Supports Lean initiatives
- Provides support and leadership of process documentation, process improvements, root cause analysis and corrective action
- Leads & supports the construction, assembly, and implementation of production systems
- Evaluates engineering analysis to establish validity of proposed systems
- Performs and/or directs testing/validation of parts
- Directs/coordinates fabrication and installation activities of new equipment
- Works with vendors on materials and process improvements
20. Reviews/supports the analysis/planning of space requirements, workflow, layout of equipment & workspace for maximum efficiency
21. Effectively manages job stress and interacts effectively with others in the workplace

Preferred Knowledge of, Skill and/or Ability to:
- Solid modeling (Catia, Solidworks, Unigraphics)
- Demonstrated People and Project Management experience
- Design for Manufacturing (DFM)
- Lean Manufacturing
- Composite materials/manufacturing preferred
- Perform hands on, detail-oriented work
- Function independently as well as part of a team
- Perform proficiently in MS Office Suite
- Communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing
Preferred Education & Experience
- BS in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering
- 2 – 5 years of progressive engineering management experience
Reporting:
- Direct report to CEO/President
- Directly supervises engineering team
- Works with customers, vendors, engineering, management, and production for problem solving and production improvements
Working Conditions:
