About the Position

Join the dynamic Traffic Engineering Section as an Engineering Analyst, where your expertise will significantly impact our community's traffic operations. This role involves complex and varied professional and technical tasks, offering a challenging yet rewarding opportunity for professional growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work under the guidance of the Traffic Engineer, collaborating closely with various sections within the Division including Transportation Planning, Survey Services, Design Services, and Construction Services.
  • Play a pivotal role in traffic operations, offering innovative and effective solutions.
  • Liaise with Transportation Planning staff to assess land use referrals, ensuring comprehensive Traffic Impact Analyses are conducted.
  • Provide expert recommendations and conditions of approval for traffic-related projects.

Examples of Duties - Duties may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Traffic Operations: Responsible for managing the traffic operations function under the direction of Traffic Engineer using the Traffic Engineering principles and procedures. This includes, but is not limited to, planning, design, and operations of traffic systems; leads a broad range of activities involving installation of traffic signs and controls; analysis of collisions and traffic problems, speed control measures, management of traffic signal operations, and evaluation of potential impacts of proposed developments. Research best management practices, analyzes, identifies, and evaluates a variety of engineering alternatives.
  • Projects, construction, & maintenance: May prepare temporary traffic control device plans, traffic signal designs, signing plans, striping plans, roadway lighting plans, and specifications under the supervision of the Traffic Engineer.
  • Investigations: Investigates traffic concerns received. Responds to commissioner, citizen, county staff 's traffic related concerns; investigates traffic hazards speed zoning, and traffic crashes; reviews traffic control signals, signing, striping, pavement markings, and maintenance requests; develops traffic operations alternatives and implement changes as needed. Assists with fatal/major injury accident investigations.
  • Records, inventories & traffic control and safety infrastructure: Ensures traffic records are being maintained, such as, crash records, annual daily traffic inventory, speed zoning records, electrical infrastructure, railroad crossings, maintenance requests, gates, guardrail records; and traffic count records.
  • Compliance: Assures compliance with national and Oregon Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices standards, AASHTO Geometric Design of Highways and Streets, Highway Capacity Manual, Oregon Sign Policy and Guidelines, Oregon Traffic Line Manual, Oregon Standard Specifications for Construction, and Oregon Standard Drawings.

About the Division

The Engineering & Construction Services Division responsibilities include planning, designing and constructing safe and efficient transportation systems for Lane County. The Division also provides high quality and comprehensive engineering and construction services to other County Departments and external public agency clients that manage, maintain, and plan public improvement programs and projects. Our mission is to provide these important services for the benefit of citizens, businesses, industries, and visitors to Lane County.


Schedule: Monday - Friday; 8:00am - 5:00pm

*This is an ADMIN-PRO represented position*

Training:

  • Bachelor's degree in a field related to area of assignment; and sufficient experience as necessitated by the competency level of the position.

Experience:

  • Journey Level (N4304): 2-5 years of progressively responsible professional experience
  • Specialized knowledge specific to area of assignment may be required.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

Licensing Requirements (positions in this class may require):

  • Valid Oregon Driver's License

Preferred Requirements:

  • Professional Engineer (PE) Designation
