OVERVIEW
South Platte Renew (SPR) is the 3rd largest water resource recovery facility (WRRF) in Colorado and cleans nearly 20 million gallons of wastewater a day. SPR is publicly owned by the Cities of Littleton and Englewood and serves approximately 300,000 residents in Littleton, Englewood and 19 other connecting communities. The Engineering Division of SPR is recruiting an Engineer IV (Senior Project Manager) to help perform a variety of wastewater engineering duties related to operating a WRRF. As SPR renews water for Colorado's future, the SPR Engineering Division plans, designs, and constructs treatment infrastructure, manages all assets, optimizes processes, and maintains all electrical instrumentation and controls.

POSITION SUMMARY
The primary duty of this position will be the management of capital improvement projects, process optimization efforts, and support of SPR initiatives including but not limited to asset management, sustainability, piloting and research, and funding/grant assistance. Other duties will be assigned based on SPR needs and the successful candidate's interest in a particular aspect of the Engineering division's duties.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Engineer IV (Senior Project Manager) - Acts as a project manager for more complex capital improvement projects with minimal supervision and oversight. Performs engineering assignments requiring exercise of independent judgment in the planning, design, construction, and operations support of wastewater projects.
PREPARATION AND TRAINING
Education:Bachelor's degree in civil, mechanical, chemical, or environmental engineering.
Work Experience:Nine (9) years minimum for Engineer IV.
Certification: PE Licensure required for Engineer IV.
Required Driver's License:Valid Colorado driver's license and a clear or acceptable MVR
Computer Skills - General Computer knowledge including, but not limited to, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, ArcGIS, and AutoCAD.
Communication Skills - Maintain effective working relationships with internal and external project stakeholders and colleagues. Strong written and verbal skills supporting technical document writing, leadership communications, scope of work development, meeting facilitation and/or participation, and collaboration with SPR staff, contractors, and other stakeholdersc, and grant proposal writing.
Project Management Skills - Support internal work activities and outside contractors working on the SPR's behalf. Develop and manage scope, schedule, fee, and final deliverables. Lead internal project teams and solicit stakeholder feedback from project conception to completion.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is primarily performed in a standard office environment, requiring sitting for extended periods, and occasional light lifting (up to 15 lbs.). Work requires visual and physical capabilities to work on computers and associated equipment for prolonged periods (4-6 hours daily).
Work may be performed on construction sites where there may be exposure to dust, noise, traffic, and moving construction equipment. Work may be performed at wastewater treatment facility where noise, irritants, dust, dirt bacteria, hazardous chemicals/air materials and fumes are present.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
POSITION SUMMARY
The Engineer IV plans, organizes, and leads projects within South Platte Renew, including the planning and design for capital projects and programs. Designs and reviews consultant plans, makes decisions and recommendations on major projects, and coordinates engineering and construction activities with plant staff.

Reports to: Engineering Supervisor, Manger or Deputy Director of Engineering

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Performs project management including the planning, design, construction management, budget and schedule management for capital improvement and planning projects as well as other interdepartmental projects.
  • Prepares requests for proposals, scope of work, bidding specifications, and other documents to proceed with a project. Evaluates responses and makes recommendation regarding consultant and contractor selection.
    Engineer IV
  • Performs site visits, field observations, and field data collection or assignments. Evaluates moderately complex to complex laboratory and field data and assembles written reports.
  • Ensures that completed projects meet established quality standards and are in compliance with design and government regulations.
  • Works with consulting engineers, contractors, and other agencies to explain, interpret, and create facility design requirements, codes, and specifications.
  • Provides professional/technical project updates to the Supervisory Committee, management, facility staff, and customers.
  • Mentors junior engineering and intern staff; utilizes junior engineers as project engineers on projects.
  • Keeps current on latest trends in technology and procedures in the wastewater industry and makes recommendations for implementation.
  • Assists in identifying potential grant sources, assisting in the development of grant application materials, and providing technical input to support the grant writing process.
  • Assists in developing operational priorities, goals, and objectives.

PREPARATION AND TRAINING
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering or directly related engineering field.
Work Experience:
  • Minimum nine (9) years professional level engineering experience in water or wastewater projects. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
    Certifications and/or Licensures:
  • State of Colorado Professional Engineer license required

Required Driver's License: Valid Colorado driver's license and a clear or acceptable MVR
An equivalent combination of education, training and relevant job experience may be substituted.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Analytical - Proficient skills needed to evaluate complex problems and propose alternatives and solutions where innovative modifications in the proposed design are necessary to conform to existing field conditions. Ability to work independently with broad direction and limited supervision. Analyze advanced engineering and operational problems and assume responsibility for the design of wastewater facilities.
Project Management - Proficient skills needed to coordinate a plan from conception to completion. Coordinate many work activities and projects, prioritize work, and administer a specialized section.
General Management - Advanced management skills required to support junior-level staff on projects.

SALARY RANGE:
$101,600 - $152,400/Annual Salary
