We have an exciting career opportunity for an Engineer I - Wastewater Collections to join our team! 

The successful candidate provides engineering support services to the Wastewater Collections Department.  The wastewater system includes approximately 3,200 miles of pipe, 260 lift stations, 133 combined sewer overflows, 70 siphons for stream and river crossings, and approximately 130 flow meters.  Conducts analyses of existing collection system Operations and Maintenance (O&M) processes and system renewal planning activities and evaluates alternatives to optimize operations.  Evaluations to include CMMS and GIS data review and evaluation, and other studies as required.  This will require management, analysis and evaluation of large amounts of operational data.  Assists with troubleshooting wastewater collection system operational issues.  Coordinate with the Engineering department on Wastewater Collection System capital improvement needs.  Provides technical assistance within Collection System operations as assigned.

Minimum Salary: $63,200 (Grade 8)

 


  • Conduct wastewater collection system O&M process efficiency improvement evaluations and coordinate implementation of improvements. Assessments to include analysis and evaluation of various CMMS and GIS data resulting in recommendations for potential O&M improvements.
  • Provide support to the CCTV Data Clerk for data input and Quality Control. 
  • Provide O&M support and troubleshooting to Wastewater Collection System operation and maintenance staff to support consistent operations. Works with engineers, consultants, contractors, and O&M personnel as required to assist in the resolution of operational issues.  
  • Prepare SOPs and develop operational tools and models to facilitate improved collection system O&M.
  • Support planning and financial performance through development of key performance metrics for wastewater collection system O&M.
  • Provide development support for the InforPS, ESRI, and Mobile Workforce Management databases to improve data availability and reporting. Manage implementation of Wastewater Collection system improvement initiatives as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

  • B.S. Engineering or comparable equivalent experience
  • Must be detailed, highly organized and able to prioritize and demonstrate strong analytical, problem solving and organizational skills
  • Ability to work with confidential information, use discretion and best judgment
  • Must demonstrate a working ability to use a computer or computer device for record keeping 
  • Proficiency in Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Requires reading, math, written and verbal communication skills with the ability to carry out verbal and written instructions.
  • Requires the ability to read drawings and maps and interpret documents such as operating, maintenance and procedure manuals
  • Must have the ability to work well and communicate with customers, management and the general public; and to establish effective working relationships with other employees and demonstrate the ability to work effectively and cooperatively with others as well as operate with a minimum of supervision
  • Must have and maintain a valid Indiana driver’s license

 

Preferred Skills/Qualifications                 

  • B.S. Engineering or Environmental
  • Experience in developing metric/KPI initiatives
  • Experience in budgeting and wastewater system performance and tracking
  • Experience in project start-up
  • Understanding of IDEM and EPA requirements
  • Knowledge of Heavy Equipment operations (Vac-Truck, Cranes, Backhoe, Arrow Boards, Pumps, Blowers, etc.)
  • Proficient with InforPS, GIS, 7i, and pipe televising review
  • Experience and skill using Oracle
  • Knowledge of the principles associated with sanitary and storm collection systems obtained through at least 2 years of experience or comparable education equivalent
