Job Purpose
We provide technical expertise and support from an engineering perspective to ensure safe and effective operation, maintenance and enhancement of National Grid’s gas distribution network.
Key Accountabilities
- Perform standard engineering analysis/calculations and Designs (e.g., site layout, piping design, material specification, etc..) associated with small scale complex projects and/or participate in large scale complex projects.
- Collate and analyze data using pre-determined tools, methods, and formats in order to support the department’s decision-making process.
- Execute instructions and requests, plan and organize resources and make appropriate arrangements to ensure that work is carried out efficiently and in line with relevant policies and processes.
- Test and challenge existing procedures and highlight areas for improvement in order to ensure they are robust.
- Develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders in order to obtain and share information that will benefit National Grid.
Undertake specific tasks of varying complexity in order to support colleagues in the design of technical solutions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university required.
- Knowledge of federal and state regulations as related to natural gas systems preferred.
- Fundamentals of Engineering preferred.
- Minimum 6 years’ experience (10 + years preferred) in an engineering field related to natural gas systems, engineering, and / or operations and maintenance.
- Proficient with MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Familiarity with Maximo, ArcGIS, SAP, Microsoft Project, PowerPlan, and/or other similar software tools.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, oral, and written communication skills.
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
- Able to travel throughout service territories and willing to work extended hours when the job requires. That might include, but is not limited to, system emergencies (storm duties). Traveling to other company locations, throughout New England and Upstate NY, for various meetings and training.

Salary - $91,000 - $107,000
This position has a career path which provides for advancement opportunities within and across bands as you develop and evolve in the position; gaining experience, expertise and acquiring and applying technical skills. Candidates will be assessed and provided offers against the minimum qualifications of this role and their individual experience.
