ABOUT ASTROTECH SPACE OPERATIONS
Astrotech Space Operations opened its doors in 1981 as an aerospace consulting business. Our state-of-the-art payload processing facilities are ideally located to support launches from the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station and Kennedy Space Center in Florida, as well as the Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A FACILITIES ENGINEER
Provide facility engineering, project management, construction management, and general overall facilities guidance, maintenance, and operational support of Astrotech Space Operations Florida facilities. Provide engineering support and project management to ASO Florida operations in areas of Critical Systems Analysis, Process Definition / Improvement, and Special Projects (Energy Management, Facility Design, Capital Improvements, etc.). Provide system engineering oversight and management of the facilities utility systems and work closely with Astrotech Mission Managers in support of building validations for customer processing.
Key Duties include:
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Provide Engineering Support to the Facility Manager for all Facility Systems.
- Implement maintenance and capital projects including facility construction and modification, new equipment purchase/installation, and recurring facility maintenance. Responsible for coordination with outside contractors and vendors.
- Evaluate Facility Maintenance Plan. Verify compliance with latest industry standards and government regulations. Create/update Preventative Maintenance procedures as necessary using Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Evaluate Facility Safety Systems and verify for OSHA Compliance.
- Update Facility Systems Documentation as needed.
- Provide budget inputs for facility maintenance and capital projects.
- Provide technical support to Facility Technicians for maintenance activities.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR A FACILITIES ENGINEER
- Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) & Construction Management.
- Knowledge of engineering standards and best practices.
- Must be able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure, fast paced environment.
- Must be able to work well in an integrated collaborative team environment.
- Must have effective communication and documentation skills.
- Knowledge and understanding of OSHA requirements and Site Safety.
- Up-to-date on latest industry standards for HVAC (ASHRAE), Electrical (NEC2020, NFPA 70B), Life Safety (NFPA101) and Commercial Fire Protection Systems (NFPA).
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical preferred) with a minimum of five (5) years of experience in facility operations and maintenance. Emphasis on HVAC, pumps, temperature controls, or equivalent work experience preferred. Experience in HVAC Systems Design and Controls PLC Programming highly desired.
Must be a United States citizen.
Must be willing and able to successfully obtain a security clearance, up to Top Secret level, to retain employment.
