Engineers have deep knowledge and hands-on experience in enterprise-wide platforms, and solve technical problems while working on technology initiatives. Engineers have strong architectural, leadership, and technical skills. They ensure delivery of high-quality artifacts, and adhere to and follow Costco’s SDLC. Engineers interact in a highly effective manner with other team members and management, drive innovation, and influence delivery and performance.

The Engineer is responsible for the installation, development, configuration, and operations of the Digital Applications. This role provides application performance analysis, security and tuning guidance along with ensuring alignment between business solutions and systems architecture. The Engineer is responsible for the design, document, support, installation, configuration of Web application Firewalls and content delivery network, DNS and SSL certificates

ROLE

  • Automates, documents, shares, educates, delegates, and improves processes.
  • Builds prototypes of potential features.
  • Creates conceptual and detailed technical design documents and standards.
  • Enhances automation of applications, systems, and platforms and identifies opportunities for streamlining, and continuous process improvement.
  • Collaborates with architects to plan, design, implement, and improve new capabilities, enhancements, solutions and/or platforms.
  • Applies knowledge to practical and sustainable applications and capabilities.
  • Partners with project managers, solution leads, and other stakeholders to establish the rough order of magnitude estimates, to create and maintain a robust framework to support applications, and to deliver quality solutions.
  • Contributes, interprets, and communicates enterprise, technical, project, and operational strategies to the team.
  • Develops team vision to drive new capabilities against a published roadmap, in conjunction with management.
  • Ensures that proposed and existing systems are aligned with organizational standards, goals, and objectives.
  • Formulates and directs activities that align short term goals and long-term initiatives while providing accurate and timely estimates of work breakdown schedules.
  • Works with teams, management, and stakeholders to conceptualize, design, build, test, and release products
  • Shares relevant information among teams.
  • Influences and drives adoption of best practices and high-quality standards throughout the division.
  • Integrates diverse solution components across multiple platforms using industry standard interfaces.
  • Tests and resolves problems, performs root cause analysis, identifies gaps, recommends solutions and preventative measures, and leads team members to solution delivery plans.
  • Runs proof of concepts and uses diagnostic/debugging skills to solve current challenges in multi-platform systems
  • Orchestrates reviews for system additions and/or enhancements.
  • Promotes and supports a culture of compliance, risk avoidance/mitigation, and corporate accountability throughout the organization through technical leadership, knowledge of business need, development and communication of policies, procedures, and plans, and assurance of solution designs that are in compliance with architecture standards, technology guardrails, security, and operational guidelines.
  • Provides leadership/mentoring to team members, implements development efficiencies, creates appropriate. documentation, drives operational efficiencies and technical growth within the team, and supports the release model
  • Optimizes team efficiency and performance through high level technical direction.
  • Provides technical leadership in implementation of applications, strategic planning sessions, documentation of requirements, tool implementation, database query languages, and programming languages.
  • Uses subject matter expertise to support industry standard source control and source change management techniques.
  • Presents technical designs and solutions to executives, management, and other audiences to gain consensus and/or project approval.
  • Collaborates with development pods and Architects to improve production deployments, platform operations, environment stability, and site reliability.
  • Manages the digital cloud and on prem applications on an ongoing basis while performing functions like monitoring, patching, and support.
  • Provides operational support for Redis, Windows servers, BizTalk, IHS, Azure Mission Critical workloads, Akamai, and other products supported by the Digital team.
  • Deploys, configures, and maintains web applications’ Firewall to protect against potential threats and vulnerabilities.
  • Monitors and analyzes security events, alerts, and logs generated by WAF. Investigated potential security incidents, working closely with security teams.
  • Leverages splunk and other tools for detecting and analyzing potential threats and vulnerabilities. Develops and maintains security rules, alerts, dashboards, and reports to proactively identify and mitigate risks.
  • Conducts periodic vulnerability assessments and penetration testing. Analyzes WAF data and logs to identify potential threats and implement appropriate remediation measures.
  • Documents WAF configurations, security policies, and access policies.
  • Configures and maintains Content Delivery Network (CDN) and ensures seamless traffic management and content delivery.
  • Collaborates with cross functional teams to ensure effective communication and knowledge sharing. Provides training to other team members on best practices
  • Collaborates with Network team and integrates WAF with Networks.
  • Reviews vulnerability scan report and recommends mitigation plan if there is a gap in the security.
  • Configures, implements, customizes, and tests software/hardware; documents software/hardware defects; and reviews and interprets error logs to diagnose errors.
  • Conducts regular application and infrastructure checkups and reports inefficiencies to relevant business and technology stakeholders via health monitoring dashboards.
  • Interfaces with infrastructure, cloud, and/or provisioning groups to stand up the production and non-production environment.
  • Drives governance through designing, developing, implementing, supporting, and documenting enterprise policies, standards, guidelines, monitoring services, solutions, configurations, and procedures.
  • Assesses technical components, translates high level design into low level technical design, and executes updates based on SLAs.
  • Develops and builds scalable and generalized frameworks to support the integration of third-party APIs.
  • Develops and instruments monitoring dashboards depicting application and infrastructure health and performance.
  • Researches, analyzes, and recommends changes required for system growth (both on-prem and cloud) by utilizing industry standard monitoring and research tools.
  • Identifies and resolves problems, often anticipating issues before they occur or before they grow; develops and evaluates options, implements solutions, communicates results to ensure corrective and timely action is taken, and manages incident resolution to ensure all components work together.
  • Remediates application and infrastructure issues and bottlenecks impacting production and non-production applications.
  • Supports the creation of documentation and artifacts used for deployment, monitoring, and maintenance.
  • Identifies, develops/documents, implements, reviews, and revises process improvements, procedures, and controls (including SOX) to ensure data accuracy, security, and legal and regulatory compliance.
  • Recommends and follows security management practices, including the ongoing promotion of awareness on current threats, auditing of server logs, and other security management processes.
  • Creates queries, programs, scripts, and reports supporting and adhering to change control policies that help to define and develop best practices for systems management and automation.
  • Works in an Agile environment; collaborates with Operations, Development, and QA functions to develop solutions and systems that are predisposed to scalability, security, and simplified maintenance, utilizing automation.
  • Performs analysis on existing infrastructure components to identify improvements in software development processes.
  • Implements service monitoring across all applications and infrastructure to ensure continuous availability and operational continuity.
  • Supports the authoring and execution of test cases related to the implementation of infrastructure development work.
  • Participates in DevOps, Agile, and continuous integration frameworks.
  • Mentors members of the digital Operations team and will be an education resource.

REQUIRED

  • Strong knowledge of WAF concepts, cyber security, and mitigation techniques.
  • Extensive experience in deploying Web Applications Firewalls, preferably Akamai and Azure front door.
  • Strong experience in working with Splunk for security event management, log analysis, and proactive threat detection.
  • Hands-on experience in maintaining and supporting critical applications with low downtime tolerance.
  • Strong experience in application performance monitoring and implementing optimization to ensure smooth operation.
  • Strong knowledge in Networking concepts, WAF, CDN, Load Balancers, and Network security.
  • Strong proven interpersonal skills and able to work well with people at all levels.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to create accurate, concise correspondence. Ability to develop and conduct presentations.
  • Ability to conduct monthly meetings with stakeholders to drive increased availability in identified trends.
  • Detail-oriented and strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze a situation for potential future problems.
  • Organized and thorough, with dedication for follow through.

  • Service analysis and other tools: CARTS+, Google Apps, Smartsheets.
  • Azure Cloud services (Computing, AKS, Network, CDN, BizTalk and Logic Apps, SQL, CosMosDB, Redis, ADO, Storage, Active directory, security and management).
  • Azure Cloud and Azure WAF (Preferably AKAMAI and Azure Front Door).
  • Able to support off hours work as required including evenings, weekends, holidays, and 24/7 on call responsibilities on a rotational basis.

Pay Ranges:

Level 2 - $145,000 - $175,000, Bonus and Restricted Stock Unit (RSU) eligible

Level 3 - $165,000 - $195,000, Bonus and Restricted Stock Unit (RSU) eligible
