POSITION CONCEPT
This engineering position, within the Electrical Systems Reliability team, provides technical and operational support on various capital projects and to the plant technical staff at Tampa Electric's Generation and Energy Delivery facilities. Must demonstrate technical proficiency in broad program areas or one of specific importance, understanding scientific developments affecting the organization. Emphasis for this position is on a comprehensive level of electrical engineering with equipment and processes commonly utilized in power plants, such as, but not limited to generators, transformers, protection systems, NERC regulatory requirements, inverters, renewable energy plants, AC/DC motors, electrical safety systems, excitation systems, control systems, emergency power systems, precipitators, energy storage systems, and low/medium/high voltage switchgear.
In a Leadership Capacity: Must be able to direct others; may have full responsibility for supervision, training, orientation, or the assignment of work to other employees; may have broad authority and responsibility for planning, developing and coordinating large segments of projects, programs or activities of major scope and significance to the Company
In a Research or Consultant Capacity: Conceive, plan and conduct research in problem areas of considerable scope and complexity or serve as the technical specialist for the Company in the development and/or application of advanced theories and processes for an assigned area. This employee must be recognized as a company-wide expert in their respective field of study
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work with station engineers to identify and solve complex O&M problems and technical issues. Lead equipment life assessments, develop best practices and participate in and/or lead Root Cause Analysis investigations.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance on NERC regulatory standards. This will include coordinating efforts with various Tampa Electric departments namely Systems Planning, System Security, Regulatory and Renewables.
- Lead Asset Management teams on developing maintenance strategies. This will include implementing pilot programs, making improvements to existing systems and processes, and working with stakeholders on evaluating efficacy of such initiatives.
- Monitor work activities of contractors assigned to him/her, and coordinate work with Asset Management, Project Management, Construction, plant outage coordinators, station planners and on-site and off-site contractors.
- Lead the development of scope of work, project schedules, and cost estimates for various projects. This will also include reviewing technical drawings and data for various projects.
- Develop and support discipline specific technical and regulatory training for Asset Management, Project Management, Energy Supply, and Delivery team members.
- Supervision of Engineers, Co-ops, Maintenance Specialists and/or other resources.
SUPERVISION
Direct Supervision: Required: None, but wil ave full responsibility to supervise other employees, including engineers, technical staff, and Coops.
Indirect Supervision: Education Required: Minimum of Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited four-year college.
Licenses/Certifications
Required: Registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Florida for Principal Engineer
Experience
Required: Experience consists of work in heavy industry or utility business with a focus on Project Engineering or Plant Maintenance (Per policy 2.13)
Required:Preferred: 12 years heavy industrial/power plant engineering/maintenance experience/project management. Experience consists of work in heavy industry or utility business with a focus on Project Engineering or Plant Maintenance
WORKING CONDITIONS
- This position requires working in an industrial environment (including heights and confined space)
- Working some overtime (weekends and holidays)
- Some travel locally, nationally and limited internationally. This will include frequent travel to various Tampa Electric facilities.
- This position will require 100% onsite presence at a facility or plant.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ REQUIREMENTS
- This position requires climbing stairs and scaffolding, utilizing safety harnesses, ability to stand and walk for extended periods, working in noise, working at solar sites, dust, heat, and high humidity areas while utilizing personnel protection equipment.
- Flexibility to crawl in and out of tight confined areas.
