Job Description
Join HII as we keep the world’s most powerful Navy afloat! Mission Technologies, a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries is currently seeking an Engineer 3 to join our Fleet Sustainment Group. This position will be located in Newport News, VA. This is a great opportunity to join a fast paced team of Engineers, Designers, Planners and PMA's that support Facility operations at Newport News Shipbuilding. This position requires an individual that is motivated and can work in a team environment to meet the needs of Facilities Engineering operations at NNS.
Essential Job Responsibilities
This Engineering position involves skills to execute the planning, design, and construction of heavy industrial and nuclear facilities, including dry docks, piers, bulkheads, and other waterfront support projects.
Additional areas of responsibility include but are not limited to:
- Performs engineering functions in one or more of the following specialties: electronics, electrical, mechanical, civil, naval, and/or chemical.
- Provides field/technical assessments, field engineering, contractor management and construction oversight for structural, mechanical piping and electrical systems associated with the readiness of dry docks, piers, utility infrastructure and emergent repair projects in support of ship arrival at NNS.
- Responsible for preparation/development/execution of facilities readiness assessments, including checklists and schedules, contractor safety management, facilities readiness audits, risk assessment/mitigation, crane/lift audits, facilities readiness future year project planning, facilities readiness design/technical oversight, facilities readiness planning across facilities division and trades management, contractor compliance and quality inspection/control, start up and commissioning of assigned readiness work.
- Preparation and review of technical work instructions and ensuring a quality product is delivered.
Minimum Qualifications
- 5 years relevant experience with Bachelors in Engineering from an ABET accredited program; 3 years relevant experience with Masters
- Structural experience related to Civil or Mechanical degree
- Strong project management, scheduling and organizational skills.
- Strong leadership, communication and computer skills – MS Office Suite
- Experience in an industrial environment
- Ability to work independently and be a part of cross-functional teams in accomplishment of complex tasks
- Ability to address technical, quality and business aspects of a project
- Ability to complete assigned tasks on schedule and within budget
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a confidential security clearance.
Preferred Requirements
- Professional Engineer's license in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
- Heavy industrial facilities experience.
- Shipyard/Nuclear facilities experience.
- Experience with waterfront construction or maintenance.
- Experience with waterfront bulkhead construction or maintenance.
- Experience with MS Project
