Testing Required:

Hybrid Role: Must be able to come on-site periodically and reside a commutable distance from the assigned work location.

Emergency Response: Yes - Must be available to perform a primary assignment in support of DTE's emergency response to storms or other events that impact service to our customers.

Job Summary
    Entry-level position that provides basic technical support for the day-to-day monitoring and maintenance, of the Energy Management System (EMS) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA). This includes all communication systems, related applications, and database work that supports the monitoring, control, and analysis of the electrical system. Under guidance, utilizes standard engineering techniques to make EMS adaptations and Network/SCADA database modifications. Interfaces with other technical groups to facilitate EMS maintenance, in support of the Database, Display, and Trouble management processes. This position also supports the development and testing of the EMS system and emerging Smart Grid and Distribution Management System (DMS) technologies. Span of control = 0; this is an individual contributor job.
Key Accountabilities
  • Supports the installation, performance and maintenance of the DTE Electric EMS/SCADA and related applications.
  • Performs basic maintenance and updates to the EMS database and emerging Smart Grid/DMS systems.
  • Assists with the coordination of EMS/SCADA database work and implementation with various engineering, IT, and technical support gr oups.
  • Builds and maintains EMS displays according to existing standards and guidelines.
  • Conducts basic troubleshooting of failed remote telemetry and communication (leased line, radio, microwave, IP-based) hardware/software.
  • Performs EMS and SCADA maintenance work as assigned with operations, engineering and field support groups to ensure a high level of electrical system monitoring, control, and remote telemetry availability.
  • Assists in the development of procedures, specifications, and standards to improve the reliability and performance of present and future EMS/DMS systems.
  • Assists with the periodic testing of the SOC and Alternate SOC emergency back-up generators and UPS systems.
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements
  • This is a dual track base requirement job; education and experience requirements can be satisfied through one of the following options:
    • High school diploma or GED, and the knowledge and capabilities typically acquired through 3+ years of relevant experience in the use or support of EMS/SCADA applications.
    • Associate degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Technology, Computer Science, or Information Systems.
Other Qualifications

Preferred

  • Understanding of the electrical system
  • Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition SCADA experience.
  • Familiarity with SCADA equipment (Remote Terminal Units/ RTUs, Alarms, Meters, and/ or overhead pole top device)
  • Experience with analyzing data and troubleshooting SCADA database issues.
  • Experience with Advance Distribution Management System (ADMS) and Energy Management System (EMS).
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional team.

 

Other Requirements

  • Analytical and problem solving skills consistent with the ability to identify key issues from a broad range of alternatives, and recommend optimal solutions for various situations.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office applications with the understanding of enhancing skills through Company offered or internal training, as necessary.
  • Ability to maintain records and documentation concerning activity and failure of integrated application systems, components, and processes.
  • Must have ability to address and resolve internal/external customer requests and complaints.
  • Proficient verbal, written and presentation skills; communicates clearly.
  • Valid drivers (or equipmentappropriate) license, including any Company-determined certifications or endorsements, and compliance with any relevant Company driving / operating standards.
  • Ability to travel & report for work at different locations (typically within the Companys service area); incumbents are responsible for their own transportation.
  • Must be willing to work additional hours on an as needed basis providing emergency support of the System Operations Center and during catastrophic storms.
