To assist nursing staff by assisting with procedures under the direction of an R.N, cleaning endoscopes, preparing rooms for procedures, transporting patients, stocking work areas and procedure rooms, assisting R.N. in transporting specimens, obtaining necessary supplies from Central Service and other duties as needed.
JOB DUTIES**

V. 70% POSITION: SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • CLINICAL: ASSISTS WITH PROCEDURES AND PATIENT CARE (All assistance is performed under the direct supervision of an R.N. and Physician
  • 1. Performs aspects of clinical care as assigned and instructed by RN.
  • 2. In order to report pertinent observations to RN, demonstrates working knowledge of reasons for tests, procedures, treatments and potential signs and symptoms of complications.
  • 3. Performs clinical procedures only under the supervision of an RN who has assessed the patient and determined appropriate tasks for delegation.
  • 4. Performs skills only after demonstrating competency as documented on the Clinical Performance Record (CPR): a. Monitoring and Observation - Connects patient to vital signs monitor. - Knowledge and ability to take vital signs, knowledge of abnormal values for vital signs b. Special Collection - Labels appropriately and correctly. c. Acts rapidly and calmly during emergencies, initiates CPR and provides the necessary items required by the clinician. Maintains CPR/BLS certification.
  • 5. Demonstrates competency in performing job tasks and in operating equipment on an annual basis.
  • 6. Responsible for procedure room turn over between procedures.
  • 7. Transports patient to and from procedure room
  • 8. Assists patients in dressing and undressing for procedures and in securing belongings as necessary.
  • 9. Assists the doctor in the procedure by: passing and operating forceps and snares etc; retrieving and collecting specimens and labels them appropriately and correctly.

UNIT RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITY 1. Serves as a positive role model; maintains a positive attitude 2. Participates in unit governance activities 3. Responds to scheduling responsibilities with timeliness. 4. Contributes to unit performance improvement activities. 5. In-services and unit meetings are attended. 6. Maintains the integrity of unit equipment (cleaning, repairs, QA). 7. Completes unit assignments as requested.
RESPONSIBLE FOR CLEANING/MAINTENANCE OF EQUIPMENT 1. Cleans, disinfects, dries and maintains Endoscopy equipment ** 2. Performs evaluations for malfunctions of endoscopes. 3. Working knowledge of all equipment in Endoscopy. 4. Notifies clinical coordinator/manager of instruments needing repair 5. Responsible for cleaning stocking procedure rooms. 6. Clean and package equipment to be sterilized and deliver to
Central Supply. 7. Follows hospital policy by wearing personal protective devices.
EDUCATION
High School graduate or GED.
MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Work under stressful conditions and/or irregular hours.
2. Ability to handle stress and change in appropriate manner.
3. Mental alertness and critical thinking skills in stressful situations.
4. Positive attitude toward health care members and diverse patient population.
WORKING CONDITIONS
1. Exposure to hazardous materials and waste products for which personal protective covering according to policies and guidelines will be provided.
2. Expect to work weekend and holiday shifts as department/ work / site requires
3. Responsible for highly confidential information.
